I have hundai accent 2009 model.since last 6 mnths i faCed A problem in my gear shifting.whenever i want to shift reverse gear, i have to shift 4th gear AnD then go into the reverse, without this it doesn't shift in reverse.so every time i use to do that.HELP!?
The M/t box has 4th
no a/t here as 4th period
so must be manual transmission

They had a problem with this plastic washer that is in the shifter tower it sits just under the shifter it self and gets worn out and causes this to happen- hope that helps.

If I understand you correctly, you have ALL forward gears working, but reverse doesn't?... then the problem is in the transmission itself or the linkage on the trans linkage into reverse.

Well two of the tranny codes ; P0734 and PO732 indicate gear 2,3,4 ratio incorrect. This can be caused by poor readings at the input and output speed sensors or pulse generators. The P1709 code is in reference to the kickdown servo switch.
Replacing the pulse generator set and TCM reprogramming( as per TSB) may solve your problem, otherwise you have a major component failure in the transmission unit. I would get some line pressures at the transmission checked first.
Sounds like the transmission is in fail safe mode, this happens when there is a transmission fault, you only have two gears 2nd and reverse.

Did you check the transmission fluid level? If necessary, add fluid. However you probably have a more serious problem. Take the car to a qualified transmission mechanic.

that is because the manual clutch (left foot) is bad. The clutch drags a bit and reverse fails.so very easy a NON Syncromesh square gear.
never post transmission problems the forget to say what is there first/
clutch drag has many causes from simple and cheap to hard.
1: MC master cylinder reservoir is dry. oops
2: mC leaks. caused #1
3: slave clutch cylinder leaks, or is bad. causing #1
4: both are bad are super commmon this old.
5: clutch throw-out bearing wrecked, collapsed.
6 clutch disc, cracked. or/ warped.
7:PP cracked, /warped ,Pressure plate.(and more)
8: flywheel face looks like surface of the moon,(needs a mill job)
9; pilot bearing center of fly seized or a wreck.
10: pilot shaft splines a mess a disc sticks.
i have cured all these, many times even racing damaged.
