To remove
The metal button or foot is removable with lots of mechanical advantage. Remove the mirror assembly from the electrical connection into the back of the mirror so that you can take the mirror to your shop. At the square end of the foot there appears to be a spring keeper with two little knobs that holds the foot in place. This spring is a TUFF little guy. My son-in-law managed to pry the spring down with a screw driver. We then placed the mirror, with the screwdriver still jammed in place, on the edge of the bench and tapped the foot out with small punch and a small hammer. We then removed the part of the mirror which holds the foot so that reattaching the mechanism to the foot after the gluing process of the foot to the windshield is easier. Come to think of it, maybe removing the portion of the mirror holding the foot first and then removing the foot might be easier. I still have to do the gluing and reassembly.
The main message here is that that little spring looking keeper thing holds the foot in place and can be compressed so that the foot can be removed, but its TUFF.
