There is no such thing as a sealed starter. every starter known to man has an electrical connection on the outside otherwise it could not operate. You did not locate the starter, and if you did, you did not look carefully enough at it or you would have seen this.

I believe I tried this one before, but another way into the electrical system aside from the lighter is to run a jumper to the starter main terminal (without grounding it anywhere else) use second jumper to ground) (Unless there is a set of "jumper terminals" in the engine compartment I don't know about) Many lighters are hot all the time, if not, it's not as convenient, but the second way will also work.

THAT IS ODD UNLESS THE TRUNK HAD BEEN OPEN/ CAR SITTING & WEAK BATT DRAINING W ELEC SHORT. NO PUN INTENDED! OPEN THE TRUNK & TRY AGAIN., DONT THINK IT WILL, BUT IF NO START CK BATT CONN , BOOST.& HAVE BATTERY ,ALTERNATOR CHECKED ALONG W/ PROPERLY HAVING IT CKD FOR ELECTRICAL SHORTS. if IT WAS SITTING AROUND A WHILE WITH THE TRUNK AJAR,CLOSE THE TRUNK BOOST IT, RUN IT TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY BY ITSELF (20MINS) SHUT IT DOWN, RESTART CK LIGHTS,HORN, ETC. ALL WELL YOU GOOD TO GO. NO START AGAIN THEN THERE'S AN ISSUE W/ THE BATTERY & POSS AN ELEC SHORT.. GOOD, FRANK M
If the doors are open, drop the back right seat back, & crawl into trunk & pull the yellow release tab
OBD2 Vehicles do not use the lighter for battery voltage, that was obd 1 systems ,the power is in the diagnostic connecter by your right knee, need adapter to use battery KAM memory back -up
The seat may only be released from the trunk--.have to check my 2004 LS
I am not familiar with the Jag, however. If there is no manual trunk release or no key operated release mechanism, all may not be lost. Auto parts stores and some department stores sell a temporary power supply that operates on a small battery and plugs into your cigarett lighter. These are used to retain computer and radio settings when it is neccessary to disconnect the vehicles primary battery. This might offer enough voltage to open the trunk and allow access to the primary battery. Good Luck Vern
I had same problem with my 2002 CLK430. Dead battery with car locked. You can't open doors with the mechanical key (inside remote key), as windows need power to slide down slightly to allow clearance, so you can't access the hood release. The answer is to insert the mechanical key in the key hole for the trunk (boot). It will only go in one way, with the slightly larger grip part down. I found it easiest to turn with a pair of flat nosed pliers. Turn counterclockwise to the left to to the 11 o'clock position. Then push the release in and the trunk will open. Battery is located in the right rear quarter under the flooring panel that also covers spare tire. Hook up charger or jumper cables and power will come back on, as will alarm. To disable, just push the unlock button on the remote key. You should be good to go from here!
I f it is like the XJR, the cig lighter is electrically switched and will not work. Find the hot point and and ground in the passenger side heelboard. The ground is two wires together scewed to the body an the hot point was a bolt attacted to a large wire and covered with a black rubber boot.
I would first check the condition of the battery. If the battery is okay, that is it puts out enough current to operate the starter. I would then check for a short. The battery would be dead in a couple of hours only if there is a short or another load on the battery.
