Speedometer and odometer aren't working

I turned my aftermarket audio system up to loud and it just shut off.......

along with my system to stop working was my speedometer and odometer

i have a 1000w kenwood amp w/ 2x 1200w kenwood subs....a capacitor and sony explode head unit......

this is a 97' mercury sable GS.....
any advice before i head into the shop?

dont know where they are... i dont have the manuel and i'm not all that great with cars. ...so no (: where would i check for the fuses ...post a link or a picture please

i did but only with a light test....

i was told that it doesn't always mean they are "good,bad".... so i removed/checked them all and replaced what i needed to.

Problem solved.

SOURCE: 97 mercury cougar speedometer quit working.

check your speedometer cable, unplug it from the transmission and replace it, that should take care of it.

Odometer stopped working on 1990 3/4 ton pick up. the speedometer still works. are they on different cables? what else could be the problem?

I don't think that year still used cables did it? Aren't both of them a wonder of electricity and so they are both electronic now?

1992 Volvo 240 odometer stopped working but the speedometer works

There is a gear in the speedometer that is stripped and is causing the odometer to stop working. You can get a replacement gear from Odometer Gears (Jeff Caplan) 757-593-3478. You will need special tools to replace these gears, so you may want to take the speedo or the car to a speedometer shop.

My speedometer isnt working

Make sure all wires to the transmission are connected. From there, change out the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) On the transmission's tailshaft. If it's still not working, you need to open up the dash and make sure it's all well connected.

Speedometer, odometer and interior lights stopped working on '95 F-150. Also, O/D light is flashing on the shifter. Checked fuses and all seem fine.

there most likely a short in your door sensor that tells the system the door is shut, and to shut out the interior light fords are notorious for this this sensor is on the same circuit as the speedo, odometer, and o/d.

Your speed sensor has failed. The vehicles speedometer is not cable controled, it's controled by a sensor in your transmission. It's a easy fix, but the new sensor is about $80 to $100 depending on where you get it.

81 corvette speedometer and odometer quit working

unhook speedometer cable from transmission and spin cable by hand it should turn smoothly if it des hook end to a low sped drill and see if it holds at a steady speed if it does the the problem is in the plastic speedo gear in the trans if it dos not remove the dash and inspect the connection on the speedo head
