The sensor unit will be located at or near the thermostat and will be just the one wire. If the gauge is working then by shorting out the wire at the sender unit the needle will immediately go to hot. IN tis case replace the sender unit. This is done with the ignition on. If there is no movement it may ne the wire or a bad gauge. Mostly though it is the sender unit.

Your clues helped me out! I found the therostat housing and found the sensor, minus an attached wire. I little hunting around and I found the wire which must have been disconnected by the mechanic when he regassed the air con grrrrrr. Problem solved. Cheers!

I change the temperature sensor but the needle does not move how can I change the needle? This is a 95 ford Econoline 350

you have probably been misinformed. The needle on the temperature gauge is controlled by the temperature SENDER unit ( not the temperature SENSOR unit) The sender unit is a single wire unit that is a resistance unit affected by heat of the coolant, The hotter the coolant the less resistance the higher the reading
The temperature sensor unit is a 2 wire unit that tells the ECM when to switch on the fan, when to go into limp mode if overheating and when to adjust the air/fuel mixture as the coolant warms up

Which fuse is for temperature gauge on dashboard

  • The temperature gauge is not on a fuse of its own, it would work with all the instruments, ie fuel gauge, warning lights etc. If the temp gauge does not work and the fuel gauge does,, look for the problem elsewhere such as the sender unit on the engine. A quick check is to remove the wire from the sensor unit on the engine and short it out to ground. If the gauge picks up, replace the sensor unit.
  • Otherwise, check the wire itself for breaks, or bad connections.

I had a water leak on my 1996 GMC K1500 and ran hot. Fixed problem truck running good, but the temperature gauge is pegged high even with a new sensor. How do I fix the gauge?

Pull off the negative battery cable and unplug the sensor. See if the gauge needle returns to normal. Try tapping on the cluster to unstick the needle. No luck? Replace the temperature gauge.

After running car approximately ten minutes the temperature gauge shows hot, close to the red sometimes goes clear over to the red. Had sensor replaced and they say when tested the car is not hot. What...

Well, sometimes the gauges in the dash do go bad.Not often, but it happens. Tap the dashboard right on the gauge firmly with your fingers.Any change and you know you have a bad gauge.
I have to tap my oil pressure gauge on my 1988 F-250 to get a proper readout....LOL! So i know this can be the case. (:^) don-ohio

1992 camry sv21, temperature guage is not working, needle shakes a little sometime.

Sounds like there is an issue with the Temperature Sensor that controls the gauge on your dash. The Temp sensor is located on the engine block. In order to assist you further in locating exactly where this sensor is i would need to know what engine is in this vehicle?

Needle on temp gauge stays on hot

if the temperature gauge never moves its probably just the coolant temperature sender. Replace that. but i honestly recommend buying a new temperature gauge with more accurate readings. they arent very pricey and they are easy to install

Why won't the oil and temperature gauge work on

you should switch the temperature sensor and oil pressure sensor you had on your first engine, because your new engine must come with the light indicator dashboard so the sensor of your new engine are not compatible with your gauges....lipak!...

Where is the temperature guage located under the hood in my pontiac g6. I can not find it to replace.

The temperature gauge is actually a needle that read a range of Hot/Cold on the dash instrument cluster. If you are referring to the coolant temperature sensor, the location depends on the engine size. Post the engine size and we'll answer it better.

Temperature gauge is broken, needle is constantly on cold

Check the obvious first!! Check the wires to the sensor on the engine are clean and price up replacing the actual sensor as well. If it's running a fan belt it'll be spinning as soon as you start the engine so won't affect the engine. It's only the more modern belt-less electric ones that depend on a sensor to work.
On a car that old it could be as simple as the gauge on the dash has died. Price up a replacement set of second hand dashboard dials and swap them yourself. It's a fiddly job but not hard.

Audi A3 2002 model auto - temperature gauge not working

The guage and fan speeds work on independant sensors. If you can remove the plastic engine cover and locate the "sending unit" for the gauge disconnect it and restart the engine. The gauge should remain cold and not move. If this is the case replace the sending unit. This should be a single wire sender located in the waterjacket of the intake manifold look in the area where the upper rad hose enters the intake.
