Both failures will cause it to not start. How did you determine that you have either no spark or no fuel? Spark issues are usually easy to check and resolve (dist cap, rotor, coil, ignition module, wires, etc.); fuel problems can be more tricky (fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines, carb/injector problems, etc.

The check valve on the fuel line at the filter housing may be leaking back not maintaining pressure when the engine is not running.
