No need to take of the steering wheel.. locate the old horn.. then remove it.then put the new horn. if the old horn has only1 wire its ok. then the new horn has 2 wire. just body ground the 1 wire[no polarity] choose any of the 2. to the body gound or join the brack of the horn together.then the other to the original wire of the old horn

SOURCE: 2003 cavalier horn problem

It's a pretty long procedure to type out,so go to autozone.com,register and input your vehicle info, then you can access their online repair guide, they have the procedure to disarm the air bag(s),they are under the chassis electrical heading, follow them to a tee so you don't set the air bag off,the cover maybe screwed on thru the back of the steering wheel or may just be held in place with tension clips, the repair guide isn't clear on this so look for srews first,if you don't see any you should be able to pry gently off with a screwdriver, the horn switch will be in the cavity underneath or possibly attached to the back of the air bag itself,it's just a small springed tab with a wire attached that touches the metal of the steering column.I hope this info helps and please be careful to follow the instructions.

SOURCE: I have a 69 camaro the problem is the horn does

On most early U.S. cars the horn button only provides a ground for the horn relay , which is located on the firewall under the master cylinder , if you can gain access to the back side of the horn button I would ground the wire to see if your horn honks . If not check for power at the horn relay . I would invest in an assembly manual/ service manual from any of the many camaro restoration companies as it could provide insight on future problems

This may be there fault, if the sub frame was removed and steering shaft unhooked without lock steering wheel, the steering wheel will spin and in the steering column is a clockspring, this works like a pullout key chain, it can only go so far, so if the wheel spun and they did not know and thing connected shaft back in the wrong spot then when you turn the wheel the inside flat wire will snap, this connects the steering wheel buttons to computer by the clock spring, the name may confuse you as it is not a spring but rather a wheel that holds a flat set of wire in order to kept a connection as the wheel turns right and left, there is only so much wire so if turned to much one way and is not centered the wire will break.
this is the only thing i could think of as the horn is also out, the only other problem may be wires left off, what you can do is take it to a dealer and have them repair it and if it is related to there job then hand them the bill.

I have a 2003 cavalier;and the horn doesn;t work . ineed help taken the steering wheel off to check wireing

Before i took the steering wheel off i would locate the horn itself and unplug it and run a straight wire from each battery post and touch one wire to each contacter on the horn to make sure the horns not bad itself. But to take the steering wheel off you have to unbolt the airbag from the back remove it and then you should be able to check the horn contacter without pulling the steering wheel.

How to remove the cover off the steering on a 2002

Does your vehicle have an airbag in it? (SEE WARNING BELOW)
If so, you have to let the vehicle sit (no key in ignition!) for AT LEAST 30 minutes to deactivate airbag. Remove the screws from the back of the steering wheel to remove the airbag unit, (once airbag is removed, you should be able to see a little spring and a wire attached to the spring that is a push in and turn setup. That is attached to your horn button and if that is where the short is, fine. If not, you will have to proceed with taking the steering wheel off.) Make sure you make that vehicle sit for as long as possible before removing the airbag. Otherwise, it WILL deploy in your face and set you into the back seat at the very least!!!!!
To be safe, disconnect battery before even attempting to do anything with the steering wheel.

Horn doesn't honk

check fuse for horn, if that's ok.

run power wire straight to the horn from battery to test if horn is working,

if that works>> you will have to take cover off steering wheel and check wire hasnt come loose there.

good luck, hope you get it working

Steering wheel ring

Remove horn cover, just pops off or slides off. Disconnect wire and set cover aside. Oh, point the wheel straight up and down. Find the right socket and remove that big nut right there once that nut is off you can use a steering wheel puller and remove it, OR what I do, is just start pulling on the wheel. Pull on top then bottom, side to side, it takes a little muscle to do so. It will pop off. Once off, put new wheel on making sure it's straight up and down, and put the nut back on the horn cover. Boom, your done.
