97 GMC YUKON 5.7 4X4, HAS A PO785 CODE......WHEN FIRST STARTED IT SHIFTS AS IT SHOULD. BUT AFTER ITS WARMED UP AND I STOP AT A STOP SIGN I COMPLETELY LOSE OVERDRIVE AND IT WON'T DOWN SHIFT. I HAVE TO MANUALLY DOWN SHIFT. WAS TOLD BY MULTIPLE MECHANICS THE IT WAS THE 3-2 SOLENOID. SO OVER THE WEEKEND WE CHANGE THE 1-2 SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE, 2-3 SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE, 3-2 CONTROL SOLENOID AND THE TCC PWM SOLENOID VALVE. RESULT??? BACK TO SQUARE ONE, STILL THE SAME ISSUES DIDN'T HELP OR CHANGE ANYTHING AT ALL. THERE IS ONE OTHER SOLENOID THE I DIDN'T KNOW WAS IN THERE SO IT DIDN'T GET CHANGED. ITS CALLED A PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE. COULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM??? HATE TO WASTE MORE MONEY ON IT IF ITS NOT GOING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. NOW IM BEING TOLD THAT THE PO785 CODE MEAN SHIFT TIMING?? NOT SURE WHAT ELSE TO TRY OR DO. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP????? EMAIL...... [email protected]

HERE WE ARE AGAIN STILL SAME ISSUES AFTER CHANGING ALL 5 SOLENOIDS,FLUID,FILTER AND EVEN THE INTERNAL WIRING HARNESS IN 4L60 TRANSMISSION IN A 97 YUKON. STILL GETTING A P0785 CODE. WHEN 1ST STARTED SHIFT PERFECT TILL IT WARMED UP AND I MAKE A COMPLETE STOP. THEN IT WON'T DOWN SHIFT AT ALL AND I HAVE NO OVERDRIVE. HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH TRANS TILL IT STARTED DOING THIS OUT OF THE BLUE. NO SLIPPAGE NO BURNT FLUID EITHER. I'M TOTALLY LOST AND DON'T WHAT ELSE TO DO. CAN ANYONE PLEASE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION? PLEASE EMAIL [email protected]

I had an 89 Suburban that started doing the same thing. Change the fluid/filter and add a quart of Lucas Transmission Fix. See how that does. Ultimately, you are going to have to rebuild or replace the transmission as the problem will only get worse in the end. Mine finally went down completely and cost me about $2700 to rebuild.

My 1996 GMC Yukon 4x4 transmission will only drive in 1st and 2nd

It will take off from a stop in overdrive but as soon as it shifts into 3rd at about 30 miles per hour it jumps into neutral? If yes, you have a burnt 3/4 clutch. The transmission will need rebulit. Cost of about 1600 dollars.

Hi amberdawn_84

My 97 yukon did the same thing (I believe). The valve body in the transmisson wears out (design problem) and causes the transmission to shift really hard. My repair was about $500 (nondealer).

The electrical harness between the steering column in these gmc units are troublesome. I just paid $500 (part $300) to have mine changed out on my 97 gmc yukon, but for 335,000 kilometers, no leaks, no oil consumption, not bad
