I had a clutch replaced in my car 4 months ago

I had a clutch replaced 4 months ago and the gears are hard to shift I have to shut my car off to put it into first I had another mechanic look at it and he told me that there was alot of air that he had to bleed the line in order to get the air out that was on Wed. 4/15/09 I \picked up my car on 4/17/09 my son drove to town and on his way back he stopped at a gas station and went to start my car and he said my car would not start he had to push start it to get it home I talked to the mechanic yesterday now he is saying that it might be my master cylinder.

There is a certain way , step by step that this system needs to be bled, starting at the master cylinder. If it was not followed correctly, it can cause the symptoms your experiencing. That said, if it was done properly then yes, master cylinder may be at fault, but tell me this, was it o.k. immediately after the clutch was done? If it was, then I would suspect something else such as master cylinder was faulty. My past experience with things like this, would be to take it to a dealer, who sees these on a more regular basis than the guy down the road, and let them at least diagnose it as they were trained on these vehicles more extensively than the others & may even have run into this problem many times already & know right where to look. It may save you money in the long run. If you don't like the price, all you have to say is no, but at least you have their opinion/diagnosis, to proceed with how you decide from there.

If you go to (autozone.com ) and search your vehicle, and drivetrain, etc, it gives you step by step on proper procedure for doing it. Good for you to know when they explain what's going on. You may have to sign up for free , but no big deal. Good Luck, keep us posted on results .

Hope that helps, keep me posted on your progress. One thing about it, if dealer says something was done or installed wrong, it would be pretty hard for original mechanic to dispute it.

1994 ford ranger, My stick wont go into fifth gear position.

When you put the Shift Handle back into the TOP of the transmission, there is a spring on the Top and it that comes loose, it would cause this.

BTW... it happened to me

Pull the Stick UP, Clean the Ball, make sure all the parts are there and that the spring that you push against is there and reinstall

Gear Shift very stiff, doesnt want to go into 1st gear or reverse

Continued operation like this and $100 would have been the cheap fix. If this is a hydraulic clutch, check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. Most take Dot 3 brake fluid and it will say on the cap. It is located on the fire wall near brake master cylinder

Manual Shifting problems

Did you put the correct fluid back in the transmission? If it is too heavy weight oil it will cause the synronizers to stick.

Hard to Get into Gear?

Either your clutch is not fully dis-engaging or the transmission synchros are worn. Check the clutch master cylinder for level and check system for any leaks if it is a bit low.
