After battery dead, electronic problems.

The battery on my 97 XK8 convertible went dead over the winter. After recharging, I noticed: 1 no power to the radio 2) a/c would rather blow hot than cool (no cold) 3) power trunk not working (Could be more that I haven't noticed). Don't have an owners repair manual to diagnose. Figure the car needs to reset its computer? Gary from Ontario, Canada.

Make sure you hsve a fully cheged battery to hand. First, disconnect original battery for at leazt 30 mins. Then reconnect new battery. Having no battery connected for 30 mins is critical

SOURCE: Battery Dead - Can't open the trunk to recharge battery. Help!

The 1994 xj6 sedan. The trunk should be opened by the key unless you have green keys only (valet keys).
If this is the case then open the hood and on the firewall there is a black plastic square box with a + sign on it, lift up the plastic cover, connect your jumper/charger on a low boost and this will give you enough power to push your remote trunk release switch.

New battery went down to 5volts over a two day period

You have dead short in your system draining the battery.
Unless you have a place where the truck was wrecked and the wires were pinched causing a short circuit, the other thing that often causes this is a short in the alternator.
God bless your efforts to find the problem.,.l

Drive it a bit. Computer "miles to empty" is an average based on MPGs. Since you disconnected battery you reset memory so it has nothing to base on.

Battery is dead and trunk will not open due to dead battery so cannot open trunk to replace battery

YOU CAN PLUG IN A BOOSTER BATTERY INTO CIGARETTE LIGHTER IT WILL GIVE CAR BATTERY POWER TO JUMP START. AND YOU WILL HAVE POWER ALSO TO OPEN TRUNK ALSO TO REMOVE BATTERY.

Yes batterys can come apart inside. The plate breakdown and drop into bottom not allowing charge anymore. Low charge can do alot of weird things to you jag. Replace the battery and when you do have them check alternator charging ability while your there. Almost all auto store will do this for free.

Electronic key won't work after dead battery??? battery went dead and when recharged the electronic keys won't open the doors anymore?

If you have the Vehicle Owners Manual it will instruct you how to reset the Electronic Remote(s) as disconnecting the Battery or a totally discharged battery removes all power from the On Board Chassis Computers memory. Therefore you must reset the Remote(s) so that the On Board Chassis Computer can recognize them. If in Doubt, please consult your Chevrolet Dealer to rectify the problem.

What is stability control? light came on

Hi

Sounds like usual gremlins kicked in to your computer, with the flat battery.

Disconnect both terminals of the battery, switch on the ignition to start position 6 times, to clear the computer memory.

Reconnect Positive terminal + then Negative --- and start engine, and check it out.

I am pretty sure it will not come back on.

Also I suggest you get the battery tested soon as possible.

( Is it the original battery ?) If so, its shot !

Good Luck !

Please give me a FixYa rating please !

Let me know how you get on .

Battery drained dead in ocld weather

Could be both batteries went bad.
1) I would take battery back to where you bought it and have them test.
2) Check, or have someone check, that battery power is not being used when the key is off and the car is not being used in any way. There will be a slight trickle of power use, but nothing that would wear the battery down in less than 3-4 weeks.
