1997 jaguar XK8 My tail lights do not work. I added a ground wire but it didn't help. brake lights, turn signals and tag lights all work. Not getting any power to anything else. Checked the fuses and they are good. Any ideas????
You've done most of the steps I would have so far... Now use a meter and trace the wires backward. Sounds like a broken or chewed up wire along the route backwards. Also try a separate wire with power to see if you can deliver power to those lights. If they work, albeit temporary for the test, you grounds are good. If one works and the other does not, then THAT ONE has a ground loss. In any case, you have it narrowed down, and I would hope that by now you may have your answer. The problem is the turn signal/headlight/hazard switch assembly on the steering column which the brake light wiring runs through. The part is easy to change and cost about $50 at most parts stores
SOURCE: No tail lights
Try checking the headlight switch it may have broken contacts in it. Easy fix go to a salvage yard find same make and model truck, swap headlight switches.

sounds like a broken wire in the harness. look around the bumper area, sometimes along the frame. may have to peel back some tape covering. also if you have a trailer harness look closely at those.

Even though the relay is activated,I assumed you checked the out put? Also,You checked the voltage at the light sockets? With a meter,or test light ,check the fuse for the cluster lps, adjust them to dim,and to bright, the meter should act accordingly on the fuse.If it does not, replace the dimmer control,or head light switch, witch ever controls them. This may allow continuity to the tail lights as well.If the fuse is dead for the cluster lights, replacing the dimmer control,or head light switch will solve the problem,or,from another fuse ,supply voltage to the cluster lp fuse, one that is only hot with the key on,cause if you do this the dash lights will come on,every time you run the vehicle, day,or night.
