Have a compression check done on the engine If the motor spins faster then that indicates a compression problem form no resistance in the motor.

Hello handy randy.
The 3.0 liter engine in your Mazda is classed as an interference engine.
Some are more tolerant than others to bending valves. If it happened on the road it is quite possible damage was done unfortunately.
If you have access to a bore scope it is a quick way to have a look to see if damage was done.
Hope you fare out OK.

SOURCE: I want to locate the starter motor on 1991 mazda

The starter motor on the MPV is located on the underside of the engine on the passenger side. If your MPV is four wheel drive it will be virtually impossible to see even if you are lying on your back under the vehicle. If you plan to take it out let me know as I have some experience with this situation.

On start up there is a noise sounding like something is engaging

Nothing should engage when the engine starts running. The torque converter and transmission pump will spin faster, but not make noise. If they do it wont go away. If the noise is there as the engine start running on it's own. I would guess it is the starter bendix not disengaging after you let off the key. This would entail a new starter. Beings that you have a 98, you might be able to get just the bendix. But you have to take the starter apart to replace it. It's what push the gear forward.

Starter motor whines but wont engage with engine on my rover P2

You will need a new starter rebuilt ect. to replace the one you currently have that is defective. you sound like you are spinning the starter motor but the starter bendix is no longer engaging the flexplate/flywheel on the engine.

Drivers side window is not working

replace the window regulator/motor assembly...you'll find it at most auto parts stores here is a listing at autozone http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/2000-Mazda-MPV-2WD/Window-Lift-Motor/_/N-jermuZ9ck77 as far as the procedure, there are a few screws to take out and pop the door panel off, then the regulator thing is only a couple of screws...easy project. should take about 30 min. to complete. have fun!

The side door to a mazda mpv lx 2005 wont go up?

Did something get spilled on the window switch?:) If no noises and now just wont go up...does the window motor make a sound when trying to lower? If not, probably the switch is defective. You can have an auto electric shop, or good mechanic test the switch...or if you have access to a guaranteed used switch from a salvage yard or internet...changing this switch should restore the operation. The window motor or regulator could be defective...but usually the switch is the first problem...if something was spilled onto the switch, you can try a hair dryer to dry out, and retry...Hope this helps.

Battery is good but when I turn it on it just clicks won't start, maybe after 20 times it starts

Without hearing the sound it makes - it's kind of hard to diagnose.

The engine starting process consists of turning the key to start, the starter motor's rotor moving forward to engage the engine's flywheel, and then the starter motor 's "rotor" spinning until you move the key from "start" to "run". You can hear the starter motor spinning - but one usually can't hear the rotor moving forward to engage the flywheel. As a result, you hear the odd spinning sound - which is the starter rotor spinning. The engine never actually turns over because the rotor never engages the fly wheel. If this is the case, then it is very likely that your starter needs to be checked and / or replaced.

Good luck!

Have a 1997 mazda mpv just quite running. After looking at it when you turn the motor over the dist does not turn. If the timing belt broke could it have bent some valves. It has 207000 mis on it.

When I start my MPV, there is a rattling sound from behind the glove compartment box. I removed the box and there is a unit that seems to have a motor of some sort inside. WHat is that for. If I disconnect...

this is the interior fan motor and housing. The rattle may be a piece of debris in there(i.e. leaf or a piece of paper)or a thing in the electric motor called a brush.Run the fan at different speeds and if the sound gets quicker with the fan,its probably just a bit of debris. The other, the fan wont run as well and may may need replacing when it gives up and wont work
