SOURCE: Car reving up and down on its own 3 to 4 times, then sputtering and dying?

The previous solution to check the idle air contol is in the correct area but needs some clarification.
The idle control is accomplished by two parts: Throttle position sensor ( $35 at Autozone) and idle contol valve approx $190. I replaced the throttle position sensor about a week ago and it runs perfect
to date but am a skeptic after almost two years of dealer incompetance. I researched all the sensors and failure symptoms on the internet and the throttle position sensor failure symptoms matched mine
exactly. See http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Throttle _Position_Sensor

SOURCE: 99 hyundai accent starts sometimes. not battery

ok when the check engine light comes on that usually indicates a engine malfunction...what you can do is go to your local autozone and they can do an OBDII test for free..my bet says it is the cam or crank sensor.. DO NOT SHUT THE CAR OFF AT AUTOZONE..LOL

I have a 2005 f 150 truck and when i went to put it in reverse it started to run rough and shake. I shut it off and started it up again and it was fine. It was good for a couple weeks then same thing again...

It would be kinda nice to know which engine we are talking about. Does it do it ONLY in reverse? Will it continue to run bad if you put it in any other gear? Will it stop if you put it into PARK? This could be caused by anything

1984 reliant. The car runs fine, but it stalls at stops sometimes, and after driving for a couple hours. It runs a really high idle, and when i shut it off in park the engine rumbles and seems to want to...

The stalling and stopping sounds like the FUEL FILTER. My 84 Reliant was doing the same thing to me. And as soon as i replaced that... The car ran perfect.

Engine stops immediatly after starting

Sounds like faulty Crank position sensor. These tend to go out alot on Jeeps. Most of the time it will be running fine and then it will shut off like someone shut the key off. Hope this helps.
