Window sensor drivers side

I took my 2004 VW Beetle Convertible in to have the headlights changed and an oil change. They told me one of the headlights burned out and I needed to replace the whole thing, the other just a bulb. Then they called and said I had a check engine light on and it was the thermostat sensor (this was not on prior to taking it to them). I picked up my car after telling them, no don't fix it if it isn't under warranty, to find they worked on a recall for the airbag, and did not do the oil change. I picked up my car and found the driver’s side window no longer goes down and up automatically when I open the door; I called them, and took it back. They in turn told me this was the window sensor and they did not do it. I told them it worked fine when I drove into their service area. They said coincidence; they were no where in the area when they worked on my car. So, now I have a check engine light on and my window doesn't work properly both that were not a problem before. So, what do I do to fix these things without taking it back to them?

Well, it works to activate the window with the key, however, the glass still doesn't go down when I exit the car. The glass stays up and then gets caught on the convertible top.

As far as the window goes... here is the full reset procedure. I beleve in your case you only need to do part #2

GLASS RESET PROCEDURE: If window is hindered whilst closing, it will open again immediately. Attention: does not work when using car key to open/close window. After window has opened, lift and hold appropriate switch within 10 seconds. If window is still hindered it will stop closing. After window has stopped, lift switch again within 5 seconds in order to close window. It will now close without roll-back function.

2. To reinstall this function: Lock vehicle from outside via driver’s door. When doing this, please ensure that all windows are completely closed. Unlock vehicle and then lock it again via driver’s door. Hold key in locking position for at least 1 second.

hope this help.
p.s. find a new dealership!!!

2004 vw beetle drivers side window does not work with key fob or door switch and does not go down slightly when door is open or convertible top is lowered. all other windows work. door locks will not work...

Open the drivers side door and see if you can peel back the covering on the wires going into the door. Sometimes from opening and closing the door so much 1 or more of the wires break or rub bear and contact each other or something else. Check if all the wires are good.

Changing headlights in 2004 VW New Beetle Convertible

  • Step 1 Open the hood of your Beetle and look between the first two fender-mounting bolts. Then, look down a few inches from there. There is a small knob, which is the release knob for the headlight-housing assembly.
  • Step 2 Push the release knob down and then all the way up as far as it will go.
  • Step 3 Push the headlight housing forward from the back of the housing.
  • Step 4 Unplug the headlight connector from the back of the headlight.
  • Step 5 Push down on the plastic tab on the back of the headlight housing and slide the black plastic cover down to reveal the headlight.
  • Step 6 Remove the spring clip from the back of the headlight by pulling it off with your fingers. The headlight bulb will come out of the back of the headlight housing when you do this.
  • Step 7 Install the new headlight bulb and replace the spring clip to secure the headlight to the housing. Installation of the removed components is the reverse of removal.

My rear (electric) driver-side window will go down but will not go up all the way. It can be pulled up manually if someone depresses the window button and another person pulls up on the window itself. It's...

Sounds like a window regulator clip problem. VW extended the warranty on these years ago, but only on front windows.
It's possible vw might do it under warranty. Call their 1-800 # and ask...
There are tutorials on how to replace one online, but it's pretty involved...

This problem was covered by a national recall. I had mine fixed at no cost to me ($1,500.00 paid by VW). If you have paid to have it fixed VW will reimburse you.
