I have a 2005 Navigator. Sometimes the liftgate works correctly. Other times it will close via remote, then immediately reopen. Sometimes, I must stop it manually, then push it closed by hand so I can drive away. It will also open once in the closed position on occasion, when I close a door on the vehicle. I notice that it usually does not fully latch when closed manually.

Electronic's , aren't they great ? There is a control module (power lift gate module ) Switch (sensor) inputs to the module . Lift gate obstacle detection strip right and left , liftgate cinching motor ,liftgate unlatch motor .Liftgate drive motor assemblys left and right . Probably a bad switch feeding bad voltage signal to the control module ! Like one of the obstacle detection sensors maybe. Could possibly have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the control module. Your best bet maybe to have the dealer run diagnostic's on it , check for codes . Need a factory or professional type diagnostic tool to do this. I would say you mite be able to check the sensor inputs to the module , don't know what or how much voltage > Some of these circuit's are a five volt signal from the module . Ohm check the obstacle detection sensor ? I still think best thing would have it checked for DTC'S . Almost forgot about the thing opening when you close another door , All the modules on the vehicle are connected on what is call a serial data network . Doors have modules inside as well .could be commanding that door open some how.
If you would like to see what your up against , here is a web site for free wiring diagrams http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model and engine size. Under system click on body & accessories , then under subsystem click on power liftgate. Click the search button ,then the blue link. The second diagram down starts liftgate diagrams . Good luck !

SOURCE: My 2003 LIncoln Navigator liftgate is not working.

check relay and fuses, make sure that automatic liftgate is on. You will have to to the command center and go through the defaults and make sure that the system is on. if you are not comfortable doing that, disconnect battery for approximate ten minutes, this will reset the system defaults.

SOURCE: Liftgate will not stay open. When you push button

HilAry when the lift gate goes to the open position does it make a grinding noise when it reaches the fully opened position and then closes, If so the gear driven assembly may have had a tooth broken on one of the gears and has striped out causing the gate to fall back down. If this is not the case meaning there is no grinding noises coming from the gate then you have a ecm module that operates the functions of the gear driven unit telling it when to stop and go down. If this is the problem you might want to take it to the dealership to program the new unit. I hope this helps.

Do This
Don't Do This

Reposition liftgate lock cylinder wave washer and adjust lock rod.
DO NOT replace the liftgate latch or actuator.

Condition
Some customers may comment on one or more of the following conditions:

• The rear liftgate glass may not lock when using the remote keyless entry (RKE), key fob transmitter or door lock switch unless the lock is pressed a second time.

• The rear liftgate or glass locks, but may be unlocked when the rear liftgate lock cylinder button is depressed.

• The rear liftgate locks but the liftgate glass may not lock.

Cause
These conditions may be caused by one or all of the following:

• The rear liftgate cylinder lock rod may be out of adjustment.

• The wave washer on the liftgate lock cylinder may be out of position with the cup side down.

• Excessive movement or slack in the lock rods at the liftgate bell crank assembly.

• The liftgate lock cylinder pawl may contact the rear liftgate glass latch when the lock cylinder button is depressed.

Correction
Important: Do Not remove the rear liftgate lock cylinder from the vehicle to perform this repair.

Reposition the rear liftgate lock cylinder wave washer and adjust the lock rod using the steps below.

Verify the customer's condition.

Open the liftgate.

Remove the upper liftgate garnish molding.

Remove the rear liftgate trim panel.

Remove the cylinder lock rod from the threaded lock rod retaining clip.

Tip
Place the tip of a screwdriver blade into the opening of the C-clip and slowly rotate the screwdriver to pry out the C-clip from the shaft. Then use needle-nose pliers to remove the C-clip.

Remove the C-clip from the rear liftgate lock cylinder push button and remove the wave washer.

Install the wave washer with the cup side up.

Position the wave washer with the curved edges of the wave spring parallel to the tabs on the lock cylinder shaft.

Important: Use needle-nose pliers to slightly squeeze the C-clip back into shape. Make sure the clip seated, you should feel a snap and hear an audible click.

Install the C-clip onto the shaft and in the slot using needle nose pliers. Then rotate the pawl several times to make sure the C-clip does not rotate. If the clip rotates then the clip is not fully seated.

Position the lock cylinder pawl to the full clockwise position.

Pull up on the cylinder lock rod to remove any slack in the bell crank.

Install the cylinder lock rod into the threaded lock rod retaining clip while removing any slack from the lock rod linkage.

Close the lock rod retainer clip.

Close the liftgate assembly.

Open the liftgate glass while keeping the liftgate closed.

Use the key fob to cycle the liftgate to the lock and unlock position while inspecting the rear liftgate pawl. The lock cylinder pawl should have clearance between the latch as shown above. If the pawl is contacting the latch, readjust the cylinder lock rod.

Verify that the customer's condition has been corrected.

Install the rear liftgate trim panel.

Install the upper liftgate garnish molding.

I just bought an equinox 2005 LS and I dont know how to lock the rear door.

To unlock the liftgate, press the unlock button on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter twice or use the power door lock switch.
To lock the liftgate, press the lock button on the RKE transmitter or use the power door lock switch. The liftgate does not have a key lock cylinder.
To open the liftgate, pull up on the handle located in the center of the liftgate.
When closing the liftgate, use the molded handles to pull the liftgate down. Push the liftgate closed until it latches.

How can i Open and Close my Lincoln Navigator 2005 Door locks and slide gate by using door pin code

As lomg as you have the factory code the procedures are as follows: To unluck the drivers side dorr, simple push in the 5 digit code. If you want to unluck the other doors & liftgate, after you push in the 5 digit code and the drivers door unlocks push the 3/4 button within 5 seconds and if you want you can open the liftgate window by pushing the 5/6 button within 5 seconds. If you want to lock all doors and liftgate, after the drivers side door is closed you can push the 7/8 & 9/0 button at the same time and all the doors & liftgate will lock. As far as the sliding door, no the keypad cannot be used for that. the only other function I believe you can do with the keypad is to activate or deactivate the autolock & you can also store a personal 5 digit code as well. This should be in your owners manual if you have one. If you do not and would like a copy, you can email me at [email protected] with your make, model and year and I will be happy to email you a copy. I hope this helps and good luck.

Linclyn navigator 2007- the rear liftgate was manually shut without using the button control. Now the liftgate will not open. One dealer suggested depressing the lock/unlock control several times to...

can you open it manually? try leaving it open and disconnect the battery and wait a couple minutes before plugging it in. after you plug it in, try to close it with the button or remote. seems like the system doesn't know at what position the door is is, so it won't open it. give it a try.
