Honda prelude 1992 h22a1 vtec import. bottom radiator hose cold. upper radiator bulging. Thermostat was renewed. Radiator new. Fan does not work on starting or running but works when aircon is on.
The fan won't come on because the thermoswitch is in the bottom of the radiator, without coolant flow the switch never gets hot. Just because a part is new doesn't mean it is good, is the thermostat an aftermarket part ? I would take out the thermostat (leave the gasket) and see if the bottom hose gets warm. If the bottom hose does not get warm, you may have a blockage or bad water pump
Well - "easy" is relative.
To me - it may be easy - tou you... only you can be the judge.
If you feel comfortable replacing the timing belt properly - then i'd go for it.
Just know - if you have problems - you will have to tow the vehicle to the mechanic.
I have used eBay since the early 90's and have never gotten taken.
The sellers rating is important - and look at the feedback of the seller to make sure they are living up to their end of the deal.
When you have a new pump - re-post and we can give you some help and tips if you want to tackle yourself.
A Haynes manual would be a great help to you also. Look for those on eBay as well. They basically tear down a car and put it bcak together. EVERY PIECE.

Here are the directions for replacing the water pump.
You can decide wether it is within your skillset to replace...
The original radio contains a coded anti-theft circuit. Obtain the security code number before disconnecting the battery cables. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
Remove the accessory drive belts, the valve cover, and the upper timing belt cover.
Set the timing at TDC/compression for the No. 1 piston.
Remove the crankshaft pulley and lower timing belt cover.
Remove the timing belt. Replace the timing belt if it is contaminated with oil or coolant or shows any signs of wear and damage. Refer to the procedure located in this section.
If equipped with a Crankshaft Speed Fluctuation (CKF) sensor at the crankshaft sprocket, unbolt the sensor bracket and move the sensor out of the way. Cover the sensor with a shop towel to keep coolant off of it.
Unbolt the water pump and remove it from the engine block.
To install: Clean the water pump and O-ring mating surfaces before installation.
Install the water pump with a new O-ring. Coat only the bolt threads with liquid gasket and tighten them to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
Install the timing belt. Be sure it is fitted and adjusted properly. Refer to the procedure located in this section.
If equipped, install the CKF sensor and tighten the bracket bolts to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
Install the lower belt cover and crankshaft pulley.
Install the upper timing belt cover, the valve cover, and the accessory drive belts.
Be sure the cooling system drain plug is closed. Refill and bleed the cooling system.
Connect the negative battery cable and enter the radio security code.
Start the engine, allow it to reach normal operating temperature, and check for coolant leaks.
2.7L EngineDisconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain the coolant into a sealable container.
Remove the timing belt covers and the timing belt. Refer to the procedure located in this section.
Remove the timing belt tensioner.
Remove the 9 water pump bolts, take note of their locations for reinstallation.
Remove the water pump from the engine and discard the O-ring. Remove the dowel pins.
To install: Clean the water pump mounting surface and O-ring groove, then install the dowel pins to the engine.
Install a new O-ring to the engine, then install the water pump. Be careful not to pinch the O-ring. Install the mounting bolts to their original locations. When tightening the bolts, be sure that the O-ring does not bulge out of the groove. Tighten the 6mm bolts to 108 inch lbs. (12 Nm), and tighten the 8mm bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
Inspect the water pump, making sure that the pump turns freely.
Install the timing belt tensioner.
Install the timing belt and timing belt covers. Refer to the procedure located in this section.
Refill and bleed the air from the cooling system.
Connect the negative battery cable and enter the radio security code.
3.0L EngineRemove the timing belt. Refer to the procedure located in this section.
Remove the timing belt tensioner.
Remove the 5 water pump mounting bolts, then remove the pump and seal.
Clean the seal groove and mating surfaces.
Using a new seal, install the water pump. Tighten the bolts to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
Install the timing belt tensioner.
Install the timing belt. Refer to the procedure located in this section.
Refill the cooling system.
Start the engine and check for leaks.
Top off the cooling system if necessary after the engine has cooled.
Oh i think i misread the question, Yours is a 1992 prelude? i thought 1997.
here is the correct procedure for the 1992 Prelude.
This operation requires removal of the timing belt. Do not attempt to replace the water pump if you are not familiar with timing belt procedures. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Turn the engine to align the timing marks and set cylinder No. 1 to TDC on the compression stroke. Once in this position, the engine must NOT be turned or disturbed.
Drain the engine coolant. Use a clean container and cap it when full. Wipe up spillage immediately.
Remove the Timing Belt
Remove the bolts holding the water pump; pay attention to the locations of any bigger or longer bolts.
Remove the water pump and the O-ring.
To install:Replace the O-ring and install the water pump. Make certain the O-ring does not deform or come out of place. Tighten the mounting bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm). On the Accord V-6, tighten the 8mm bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm) and the 6mm bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
Install the timing belt.
Refill the engine coolant.
Connect the negative battery cable.
Start the engine, allowing it to idle. Check the work area carefully for any sign of fluid leakage or any indication of the belt rubbing or slapping the covers. Bleed the cooling system.
Shut the engine off. Reinstall the splash shield.

Thank you all; that confirms my next pick. 99 % anyway the thermo switch is aftermarket @ tridon made. Is it reliable? Thanks again 'cause I was confused how come honda put the thermostat and sensor after the radiator. Most of the cars that I had was after the engine flow. Thanks again, great help.
Sorry I forgot to answer the thermostat question. The thermostat is original Honda part. Cost me $87.00. Anybody knows where can I get cheaper parts. I enquired this morning in one of honda parts dealer about water pump. They said $350.00 for the parts, (Australia) Melbourne $700.00+ supplied and fitted. Have mercy on us. It is water pump not an Engine. And they also noted that they are not quite sure if they are going to get a right part as it is an import. The aftermarket pump will cost $100-$150.00. from image auto but shown in the book 1997 h22a1 vtec and not 1992.

Thank you; It adds confidence 'cause I really want to learn bits and pieces in this prelude of mine. Anyway how much time do I need to replace it? Is it 2 or 3 days? Is the h22a1 engine's water pump for 1992 varies or different to other h22a1 model? like 1993, 1994....and so on.
