96 Jaguar XJ6 starts fine, idles at 800 in neutral 700 in gear, at times it gets a bit rough and stalls sometimes, restarts right away with no issues. Will not rev over 2700 rpm in neutral it just bogs. In drive it accelerates with light throttle but stumbles and back fires with more throttle. Stalled once at speed at full throttle and it appeared to have smoke and raw fuel out the tail pipes, then it restarted fine and drove normal with light throttle. It also stalls on tip in after stopping. have had codes for miss fire on cyl X (random), trans did not receive engine speed signal. So far I have cleaned throttle body, removed cleaned and tested the idle air valve, cleaned and tested the TPS (via resistance not voltage) removed and inspected the spark plugs, cleaned injectors (shop did the professional procedure), replaced the fuel filter, checked for vacuum leaks, cleaned the crank position sensor and inspected (not much to see), checked the coils at night for light show, new air cleaner, cleaned the EGR valve then blocked it off for testing no change. Considering new fuel pump, new crank position sensor, new throttle position sensor. car has 140K on it and I'm not going to give up. These parts are not cheap so I have been working from least exp to most, with no change thus far.

The crank sensor is favorite they are unreliable that explaines why the trans not getting engine speed signal unless its a manual box and that code will allways be logged advise start by checking for water ingress in engine control module located lower rh a post then change crankshaft position sensor or better still try and borrow one from a good running car

SOURCE: 95 Jaguar XJ6 will not start and No codes present?

During cranking @crk sensor u should see up to 1 ac volt. Also if cam position sensor is @ fault u may not get a code, internal fault. Cam sensors are not availible, but rebuild kit is availible. The engine has to be set to top dead center aligning mark on crank pulley & tab aswell as mark on cam sensor itself.

Testimonial: " It was the CAM Sensor! All is well and our Jaguar is back on the road!! THANKS!!!"

96 Jaguar xj6 Electrical Issues

I forgot to mention about the locks. Mine does the same thing...jumps three times. This is an indicator that one of the locks on the circuit is not functioning properly. Mine happens to be the right front but it could be any door including the boot lid.

The antenna could be a burnt motor; however, my 1987 XJ6 had the same issue. One day it came up just a bit and I was able to slowly coax it fully out. After I got it out, I took some olive oil and lubricated it just a bit--not a heavy lubrication--and it worked well after that although it would still sometimes stick.

Have a 96 camry 4 cyl auto. After highway driving, the idle becomes rough and wants to stall. The problem eventually goes away after driving a city speeds. Around town, it runs all day just fine. Help ,...

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

92 Jaguar XJ6 stalls after breaking

First and foremost I would demand the dealer to access the situation since I assume you paid them to fix the problem. This sounds like an electronic issue between the transmission and the idle switch. When you brake with an auto transmission it downshifts thus adjusting the rpms to compensate. If this is malfunctioning it could very well stall it..
