My air conditioner starts out blowing cold air, but if a change is made with the temperature knob, fan knob, or even the position of the air vents the air condition starts blowing hot air. If I turn the ait conditioner off and wait awhile the air conditioner will again blow cold air. Can you tell me what the problem might be?

You have broken vent flap servos or just need calibration with Volvo diagnostic tool.

I had exactly the same problem. When your engine is cold and off check the gap on your ac compressor with a feeler gauge, it should be between 0.3 and 0.5mm. If it is larger you need to re-shim which invloves undoing a nut on the end off the compressor and removing the clutch plate, then removing the appropriate shims (look like washers) then replace. The reason it blows warm after 10 minutes or so is because the ac compressor gets hot and the clutch gap gets too large for the electro-magnetic clutch to engage. Some people would say that you need a new compressor but all you need to do is a re-shim.

SOURCE: no air or heat blowing from vents

if the fan is blowing this could be a problem with the climate controll switch that changes the direction of air from floor to defrost to vents, some are vacuum controlled through a vacuum operated mechanism that opens and closes a door in the vents which redirects the air to different places.

SOURCE: Air conditioner works then stops blowing cold air

when you day the air goes on and off i assume you mean the compressor goes on and off. that is what moves th freon through the system. if you are getting cold air when the compressor is running then the problem is that the compressor is stopping and that would be because a pressure switch may be bad. it is possible that model has a thermal shut down too say if the compressor was low on lubricant and was overheating when it does run. but if it is a pressure switch that is failing and they do, it is an easy fix. if you follow the ac lines you will find the switch.it is small about the size of a sparkplug-attached to the ac line and will have a connector with two wires. if the car is running and ac is on but the compressor is not turning remove the connector and jump to two wires. the compressor will start running if the switch was bad and we are sure there is a good charge on the system. if you are getting cold air there should be a sufficient charge to close the switch. these switches can be removed without losing any freon. there is a valve below them that will shut off when the switch is removed. then all you have to do is get a new one and screw it into place, apply the connector and you are done. if that is the problem. hope this helps please let me know and good luck

My heater is stuck on and blows extremely hot air at all times, harder and hotter once it has warmed and is being driven. Though, never off at any time.

it would appear that you will have to replace all items damaged during the theft attempt
as all the items are part of the dash assembly including the radio, I would consider a complete dash from the wreckers and that way you only have to hook up the wiring harness connections

Blows cold air with heater on

It's most likely the "blend door", which moves back and forth between the a/c or vent position, and the heater position. There is an electric motor that moves plastic gears back and forth to adjust the temperature, and it is common for the largest gear to crack. When this gear breaks, or something else causes the mechanism to disengage from the blend door, it tends to fall to the full cold position. If you want to try to fix it yourself, you can get to it by removing the four screws holding the change drawer/ashtray. The mechanism is towards the right side, behind the glove compartment. It has a knob in the middle of it that you should see move (use a flashlight) when you adjust the temperature. You may be able to twist it by hand if it's broke, and if the fan is on full blast, the air will hold it in this position until you turn it off and it falls back to the cold position. Here's a link I found that is more in depth:

95 honda passport heater does not work. Fan turns on but no heat. No clue what it could be. I noticed the problem after I had a radio installed and the automatic transmission rebuilt.

May be in the radio installation. I hate pointing fingers at the last guy who worked on stuff, but they could have hit a blend door.

When car is warmed up, turn heat on vent and like 3/4 power for fan. Turn temp knob from hot to cold. You are looking for a temperature change. Now, turn on a/c to vent. Wait for it to blow cold. Turn temp knob to hot. Looking for air to be warmer that it was. POST RESULTS

Hot air blows thru the vents all the time

Just fixed this problem on my '06 Sentra. The AC lines were freezing cold so I figured the system was cooling with no problems but the cold air wasn't getting to the cabin for some reason. I put a snake camera in through the vent behind and to the left of the glove box(you have to remove all of the panels) and saw that the cable that gets pulled/released when you turn the hot/cold knob had broken off from the retaining clip. This caused the whole line to move when the knob turned meaning that the cable wasn't actually being pulled in when turning the knob to cold. I pulled the center dash and CD player out and the cable was right there so I secured it in place with a zip tie. Everything works like new now.

A/C will suddenly send out heat. Fiddling with knobs seems to help. What's wrong?

You have a broken wire connection between the temperature control knob and the circuit board behind the center dash console. Vibration causes the failure and once the control knob gets loose the solder connection fails.

For someone that knows how to remove the dash unit and can re-solder a couple of new wires this fix should take no more than 1 hour. Make sure that you apply loctite to the heat control knob spindle nut when you re-assemble it.

The dealer quoted me 750 dollars to fix this issue and I found out that it's a common failure for this year. I fixed mine virtually for free but it took some tools and about an hour of my time.
