I would change the transmission fluid first, use a good synthetic fluid and see if the problem goes away.

Silly question: Have you checked the transmission fluid level, and is it to manufacturer's spec?

SOURCE: 01 Audi A4 transmission slipping and leaking oil everywhere

I have a 98 A4 2.8 with tiptronic and I recently had a similar issue. For me, the front pump to the transmission was bad. At first I thought it was this brass sleeve bearing in the pump housing because it was shot on my original transmission. It showed signs that it ha been spinning and it should not move. I bought a new sleeve bearing and it did not fit right, still leaked tranny fluid. The shot sleeve bearing spun and wore out the housing in the front pump.
I ended up replacing the entire front pump from a car in the wrecking yard. Not fun at all. Have to remove front driveline (if quattro) that goes throught the transmission and I had to unstack the transmission and restack it when putting the thing back together. The job really sucked, but this did fix the issue.
Another option if this happened to you is to have a machine shop make you a sleeve bearing that will fit the worn out pump housing and has proper inside diameter that matches a factory bearing specs. A couple of shops local to me could do this for about $200-250 and that would have been a lot simpler way to go in hindsight.
If it turns out that you nicked the brass sleeve bearing or something while stabbing the tranny, I still have the new one that I purchased and will sell you that cheap. I can also get you more detail if it turns out you need to change the front pump on the transmission.
It is possible that when you put the engine back in, the sleeve bearing I am talking about got stabbed or scratched by the engine side causing it to leak and/or fail.
Let me know if this helps. I also found out that there is a cheaper alternative to that OEM Audi Transmission fluid which tends to be generally very expensive from the dealer. Take a look at buying Redline D4 Automatic transmission fluid. You can get it for around 12 or 13 buck per liter from NAPA (a lot of times by special order only) or as cheap as around ten bucks a liter online but then you have to pay shipping. Consider that it it about $32-36 per liter from Audi dealership and I think the capacity is something close to 6 liters including the torque converter. The redline stuff is synthetic but works fine when mixed with the OEM stuff. Don't put universal $3/quart ATF in your tranny as this is generally not compatible with Audi/VW.
There is a trick to filling the transmission fluid as well. It is a 'sealed' transmission of sorts and does not have a friendly way for end user to fill it up. You need to get it up on jack stands or a lift and remove a 17mm Allen head fill cap towards the back of the tranny. You then need to pick up a hand held fluid pump for about $4 and put the fill hose in the hole after said cap is removed then pump fluid until it overflows out of this hole. Really a lame process but this is the way to get it done. Car should be level.
Consider running car if on jack stands or lift and shift through your gears with tip, then check fluid level again before putting back on ground. This will help to fill up the torque converter if it has lost some fluid during the process. Obviously make sure the wheels are free to spin prior to putting in gear or anything like that.
Let me know if this helps. I just passed 10k miles since I fixed mine a few months ago. You can email me for more on this or if you need that sleeve bearing. Ken ([email protected]) (801) 649-5600

While i am driving my 2001 e-350 goes into neutral what is wrong

Though it will not harm your transmission to shift into Neutral while your vehicle is in motion, the additional wear on your brakes by leaving the transmission in Drive will be negligible over the life of the brake pads. It is that minor. NEVER, EVER go into neutral while slowing down to a stop, for 3 reasons: 1.

Transmission problems

when checking the transmission fluid always check it while vehicle is running, if you overfill the transmission YOU WILL BURN IT UP. secoundly the high RPM is most likley a cause by a bad TPS Throttle Posiction Sensor. and yes the high RPM can cause transmission damage if you do not fix the problem pretty quick .in this case good idea to do soits getting harder and harder to get parts for these cars TPS-25.00 to 45.00 if you fix it your self, simple to do

Rob, assuming this is a 4X4? Sounds like a bearing. They can vibrate, snap, clunk, all kinds of terrible noises or vibrations.
Axle u joints will also do this. Is it all wheel drive?

My Audi A6 is stuck in neutral and will not budge I can start the car and everything works it just will not come out of neutral

When you say it is stuck in neutral what is stuck? is the shiftter stuck in the neutral postion or is the car not moving when shifter is placed in drive or other gears,
if the car doesnt move in gear i would say it is transmission releated, this may be a bad tranny or fluid is very low.

check your transmission oil, make sure it is full. this is were i would start,

WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE IT WILL NOT GO ANYWHERE

Its the electronic shift control located just under the battery ontop the transmission replace or repair will solve the issue

it'll go into drive but once it reaches 1500 rpm it'll drop into neutral as a safety because at this rpm it is being told to shift gear and when it fails to do so it safely goes into neutral

it will go into reverse just fine and park and you can run all the low drive gears until you reach 1500 rpm then it'll cut it off

i pulled mine out re soldered bad components on the board to fix it but im an electronics engineer it may be easier for you to just replace it

I had the same issue with my '05 A4 1.8T.  Turns out it was the RPM sensor.  Audi tried to tell me it was teh fuel pump and the cam-shaft positioning sensor.  Paid for teh fuel pump replacement and it died 6 blocks from the dealership.  Then they replaced the RPM snesor, works great now... Except it's still an Audi.

1990 Suzuki Escudo 4 wheel drive

As far as I know the procedure should go something like this...

Stop the vehicle, engage the parking brake and if applicable, get out and turn the hubs on the front wheels from Free, to Lock.(You may not have these on a Suzuki, they may be auto-lockers)

Get back in the vehicle and put the transmission shift selector into Neutral.

If you have a manual transfer case, move the selector-shaft to 4x4-High, or 4x4-Low -- whichever is desired. Now, putting the vehicle in gear with the transfer case is sometimes somewhat difficult. As long as the vehicle's transmission is in neutral, don't worry, the gears inside the transfer case are big and beefy -- Don't be afraid to be rough -- Again as long as the transmission is in neutral. You may also have to disengage the parking brake and slightly let the vehicle roll forward or back with your foot-brake to get the Transfer case to lock into place.

Once 4x4 of the selected High, Or Low range is selected, usually indicated by the vehicle jerking slightly with a slightly loud clank/thud. Move the Transmission selector out of neutral into your desired gear (Drive if Automatic, if Manual, whichever gear you pull out from). and voila! You should now be in 4-Wheel-Drive.

To disengage 4-Wheel-Drive. Just reverse the steps.
