in your passenger floor board remove kick pan, you will find the ECM and TCM The TCM is ****** control modular...200.00 or so replace it. your ****** is stuck in sport mode which makes it not shift correctly, replacing this modular will correct that. just did mine last week
Generally autos love clean transmission fluid and periodic cleaning and adjusting. Suggest you drop the transmission pan and give everything a good clean and blow out followed by some nice clean trans fluid. If it smells like burnt clutch and there are black particles present the bands may need replacing. After everything is clean, and if it is still playing up, check continuity in the " sport " switch to ensure it is working properly. If switch is ok start looking for damaged wires. Happy hunting
It sounds like your tcm (transmission control unit) is going bad or it already is, at times when this happens you may also experience the trans not shifting or it gets stuck on a higher gear and will have to shift manually from 1-D.Usually this happens when it's really bad.
Thats a common issue with the TCM when is about to go out.. Once you get to 3rd gear take you foot off the pedal the if you let go of the pedal and slowly accelerate it should go in 3rd gear. You can order a unit from this site with a lifetime warranty. Good Luck and the HONDA on the road. http://www.onlineauction.com/index.php?page=auction:view_item&auction_id=1092906
Last year in the summer of 2007 I had the same problem with my 1991 Accord dx. I replaced the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) and the light went out and the car has been driving fine every since.
