Door Ajar light and dinger, interior lights stay on, looking for a fuse diagram.

Looking for a fuse diagram for a 1998 Ford Windstar GL. Problem is the door ajar light stays on and the interior lights and the dinger goes constant. Need to pull the fuse before it drives me crazy. As well my cigarette ligher does not work. It is not the element it is the actual socket so would like to try and change the fuse.

It drove me nuts too. Fortunately, the solution is both cheap and simple. There is a latch mechanism in each side of the tailgate which gets all filled with dirt and slime. The latch jaws start to stick and dont move far enough to close the door ajar switch inside the tailgate Spray each latch generously with WD40, wipe the mechanisms off with a rag, close the tailgate, open the tailgate and repeat the cleaning several times. As soon as you get everything freed up, the switch will be able to report that the tailgate is closed and the problems will be gone. If you want, afterwards you can spray a little lithium grease on the latches to keep things running smooth. You may need to use a screwdriver to completely pry open the jaws in conjunction with opening the tailgate handle to get them to open fully while you are washing and wiping them off. Now's a real good time to lubricate all the door hinges and latches including the sliding door. May as well put some oil on the hood hinges and hood latch too. It's not impossible to keep Fords on the road....just tricky......very tricky.

The door sensor stays on when i open and close the side door on my 1998 ford windstar which causes the interior light to stay on.. what can i do to stop that from happening?

I had the same problem. Cheap way to fix is to remove fuse. Only problem with that is my power windows were on the same fuse so they wouldn't work without the fuse. Alternative was to remove the bulbs from interior lights and leave the fuse in. The door ajar light will remain on but at least your interior lights won't be on running down your battery.

Door ajar light on and interior lights stay on

sounds like a bad door light switch, which is located on the latch asm, you must pin point which switch is bad, the way to find out is to use a scan tool to see which door switch is still open with doors closed. or remove door panels and discconect each switch and see if lights go out, start with drivers door that switch is often the bad one. hope this helps.

My van dings all the time when under 20 mph and the light stay on for 15 min. after car is off. The door ajar light is on but all doors are shut. Is this an electrical problem? Is there a way to shut off...

one of the door/van loading door switches has failed it thinks a door is open so the the interior light stays on and the door open warning will ding the interior light should have a switch to disable it or take out the bulb but you cant stop the dinging until you find the faulty latch switch and fix it
