Is the alarm an aftermarket alarm or an original Mercedes alarm ?
If its an aftermarket one it could be the self-powered battery cutting in because the battery voltage is getting too low and the siren thinks its being tampered with !
Check the condition of your car battery with a heavy duty discharge tester to see how low your battery voltage is going as you crank the starter motor , you possibly may need a new battery

Why does my 1998 VW Beetle not start but the horn blows and lights flash when turn key to start it

I need more information. Do you mean that when you turn the key the horn blows and the lights flash on their own? Does your car have an after market alarm system? If it does you may have a problem with the alarm system. Does the car even make a sound like it is cranking? If not I would join an auto club that has free towing and bring the car to some one that installs aftermarket alarms and stereos and see if they can fix it.

Alarm keeps sounding and blue light is flashing on dash board, if I close the door the alarm starts all over again. The alarm sounds very weak and weird. Car won't start,

This may sound silly but it worked for me. Try sticking the key in the drivers side door with the alarm going off and go through the motion of unlocking the door. Good luck.

We understand that your problem is: My 95 jeep

Have it towed to a car alarm specialist that is familar with Chrysler products. With a little luck they can fix it.. To reset alarm
(if it will work}, try locking drivers door and unlock it with the remote from outside.

The 5 second thing does not sound good.. Usually this locks your ECM out so it will never start. Thinks someone is trying to steal it.

My battery went dead bought new battery now alar system wontb let car stat an alarm keeps going off

since the alarm is sounding I am assuming this is an aftermarket alarm system

if it where the factory system the vehicle would not start but the alarm shouldn't sound

do you have a little red light on the dash flashing somewhere....if so then there is a kill switch somewhere on the vehicle... look under the dash

97 Ford Exployer is first started, dash lights blinks on and off

sounds like an alarm system that has the horn disconnected,so when you start the vehicle it trips the alarm then resets itself after awhile .see if there is an aftermarket Alarm system under the dash and remove it!

No dash lights or odometer reading when you open the door and car cranks but will not start. Alarm is in vallet position. Few weeks ago paaenger window would not work then started working then driver side...

I would start by removing the pesky alarm. My encounter with alarms is they create more problems than they actually help a badly wired alarms systeme can be a true nightmare. My advice the best lock for your vehicle is the lock that locks the gas and brake pedal together best invention yet good luck
