You may need another speedometer. The speed sensor sends a signal to both the speedo and the odometer. So if the sensor fails, both meters would stop working. The speedo gets power from the same circuit as the warning lights.
Hi Coritter, Depending on the year of manufacture of your vehicle, the speed control could be related to the ABS pickup sensors mounted on the wheels. Modern vehicles manufactures tend to double up on functions and therefore a fault seemingly unrelated can be. Have a full scan carried out. If you drive a manual shift you could be lucky, because on an auto box the same speed sensors control the gear change. Regards John
Looks like you changed width of tire and not profile. Should/would not have made 15mph difference anyway. If you purchased vehicle new, I would suspect the road speed sensor needs to be tested. If you did not buy it new, previous owner probably had a set of large profile tires on it and changed the speedo gear/pickup assembly at the transmission.
Did you change the Vehicle speed sensor or the wheel speed sensor?? The vehicle speed sensor is located on the side of the transmission..And its for the speedometer and shift pattern..If all good depending on what year, some have to be reprogrammed
it is possible,if it's not a speedo itself.
if you would have VAG COM scaner , you could check instrument cluster and determine if you have bad speedo or speed sensor.
Speed sensor on the transmission , should be around differencial.
it's usually because you have a bad VSS, Vehicle Speed Sesnor. It sends a signal from the trans to the speedo and engine computer. Usually speedo stops working too.
Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (9E731) is a magnetic pickup that sends a signal to the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) . This VSS signal transmits vehicle speed to the powertrain control module .
