SOURCE: how can you flush the steering gear box after

Leave the return line disconnected from the pump and run into a bucket. fill new pump and start engine have some one keep adding fluid until clean fluid is going into bucket. Caution make sure to secure hose to bucket or you will make a mess. Also turning the steering wheel about a half turn in each direction Will help it to flush out the gear box better.

if the fittings aren't different sizes to help you out, it will be the fitting furthest from the frame, closest to the rad. or engine. all gm trucks are like this.

Power steering hose diagram

power steering hoses run from pump to the steering box, (high pressure) and from the steering box to pump (low side).. is a closed connection. pump to box, then from box back to pump. High pressure should have pressed on fittings, while low side may have normal water hose clamps or replaceable hose without pressed on fittings.

Power steering - 1999 chevy silverado

You're going to have to bleed the system alot on those trucks. Just remove the return line and have an assistant turn the steering wheel back and forth just enough to engage the pump and filling the resevour while doing this. Keep bleeding until you have a good flow of P/S fluid out with no air bubbles. This can take a while.
