So you're saying with your headlights off when you hit the brake pedal your brake lights don't work but when your headlight are on they do work? If that's the case sounds like your rear running lights and brake lights have tied themselves together on the same circuit
Well, the headlight switch would have no connection to the brake and turn signals. But you could have a ground problem somewhere. I would want to trace the circuit from the brake switch to the tail lamps with the headlights on to verify. And does it matter if you are using headlights or just parking lights.
These are all different circuits. The brake lights are on a 10amp fuse - the headlights are on a 50amp fuse - and the parking and dash lights are on a 20amp fuse. Do you have power going into the headlight switch and the brake light switch ?
It may sound silly, but check your brake light bulbs to see if they have been installed incorrectly. Brake light bulbs have two filaments, one for tail light, and a brighter one for brake lights. On some cars if the bulb is installed wrong, the brighter filament will stay on for tail lights. The only other thing I can think of is the wrong bulbs have been installed.
Your cruise will not work if the brake lights are on just like the cruise disengages when you hit the brakes. As far as the brake lights with the headlights, sounds like there is something crossed. If you hold your breaklights on with your headlights off is there a glow of the headlights or your running lights. If your rear bulbs are the round push in and turn type make sure they are installes correctly. You may have one where the contact on the bottom of the bulb is causing a jump of power from your running/parking light over to the brake light side.Well hope this helps and good luck.
Wow, that's a strange one!
Try removing the brake light bulbs, and then see if the headlights still come on with the brake pedal. If the headlights still come on, there is a short to voltage somewhere in your wiring ( in other words, somehow the brake light circuit is feeding the headlights ). If the headlights stop coming on with stop light bulbs removed, you have a bad ground in the stop light circuit. Clean the contacts inside the light bulb sockets if there is any dirt or corrosion. Hope this helps.
hi simple one the brake light bulb replace the bulbs brake light filiment has gone on one side droped on to the lights circiut hence press brake light headlights come on and vise versa yates210456
