Overheating I have a Jaguar 2001 xj8 and since yesterday my car got hot a little bit more than normal and smell like coolant, I think that is the thermostat, can you help me

Normally you lift the bonnet, pull the dipstick and test it, however Jaguar in their wisdom made it a sealed system with a fill level plug which is accessed from under the vehicle.

Sounds like the temp sensor for the fans is faulty.Check with your dealer where this is and try a replacement.

throttle valve sticking due to carbon build up, remove throttle body and clean out check for smooth operation then re-fit using new gasket

the sensor swicth is just a switch could be grounded (short)

Alot of the new cars are eliminating the Tranny dipstick and replacing it with a warning lite on the dash... Personally I'm disappointed because I would rather have a little more forewarning...

Check your heater core for leaks. Do you smell any antifreeze? If so, good sign of heatercore failure. IF air is blowing good, then heater/air blower motor is fine.
