The steering wheel is locked when the ignition is turned off. Sometimes when getting out of the car, some people will be holding on to the steering wheel. Occasionally, the steering wheel will be pulled as they get out of the car. This will cause the locking mechanism to be pulled past it's normal locking position, making it impossible to insert your key. You may be able to correct this by turning the steering wheel to the left then to the right, back and forth with a strong grip on the wheel, while trying to insert your key.at the same time. If you cannot get the steering wheel back to it's normal alignment, where your key can be inserted, call your local KIA dealer and ask for help. They should come to you and fix it for you. They made have to remove the steering wheel to release the locking mechanism and realign the steering wheel to line up properly with the lock.
Hi. Chances are, the lock for the steering wheel is sticking, or broken. Try putting the steering wheel close to straight, then spray some PB Blaster in through the keyhole. Make sure to cover the area underneath with plastic or cloth. Then, lightly tap the head of the key with a hammer. After a few taps, move the steering wheel left to right to try and engage the lock. If this does not help, then I suggest taking it to a shop, as the air bag will have to be removed to remove the steering wheel to fix the problem. Hope this helps....
Try moving your steering wheel to the left then jiggle the key until it releases, if no luck try the same thing moving the steering wheel to the right, or combination of both ways, If this works then there is nothing to worry about, it can happen almost to any vehicle, you are just in between the wheel locking mechanism and the ignition start or the removal of the key, a common problem in the design of the wheel lock, to prevent it from happening again, just have your steering wheel were you want it before starting or turning off you car.

Disconnect the negative battery cable with the proper size wrench and place away from the battery. Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the key to the run position. Remove the steering column cover on a tilt steering wheel model by pressing the upper and lower section of the cover together and pulling free from the mounting plate. Remove the steering column covers on a non tilt steering wheel model by using a Philips screwdriver and unscrewing the mounting screws. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch by lifting up on the release tab and pulling. Press the ignition switch actuator pin by pushing a small screw driver into the key lock cylinder, while doing this pull the ignition switch out of the ignition switch housing.
Installation
Insert the new key into the new ignition switch and turn the key to the run position. Insert the new ignition switch into the ignition switch housing. Wiggle the switch back and forth until the actuator pin mounting hole is aligned and falls into place. Install the electrical connector back into the connector housing by pressing it in with your hands. Place the steering column covers back onto the non tilt steering wheel and insert mounting screws. Tighten screws using a Philips screwdriver. Place the steering column covers over the tilt steering wheel and press the upper and lower portion together to snap covers back into the mounting plate. Pull on the ignition key to ensure switch is locked into place. Turn key to the "off" position and remove the key. Insert the key and start the vehicle.

Remove the air-bag from the steering wheel of the car. You will
need to use a number 26 torx bit and unscrew the 4 bolts behind the
wheel. Make sure you unplug the wires of the air-bag.
Use a 3/4 inch socket to remove the center nut on the steering shaft.
Use a steering wheel puller kit to remove the steering wheel. Place
the bolts provided in the puller kit in the 2 holes on either sides of
the center shaft.
Connect the puller to those bolts while keeping the puller inline with the center steering shaft.
Tighten the bolt on the top of the puller until snug then turn 1/4
turn more then strike the bolt with a non-maring hammer the steering
wheel should pop off. If not, tighten bolt 1/4 turn more and strike.
Now you have access to the ignition lock. Use a 10mm socket and
extension to loosen the silver bolt about 2in in from the keyhole. Now
pull the old lock straight out and unplug the 2 orange wires that come
out with it.
Take the new ignition and reconnect the orange wires and insert the lock back into the column.
Retighten the 10mm silver bolt.
Place the steering wheel back onto the center shaft and simply push down, now special tools are needed for reassembly.
Take the air-bag and connect the wires and bolt it back up using the 4 bolts in the back of the steering wheel.
You must purchase the ignition lock from a certified Cheverolet
dealer. If you do not give them the vin number of the car the correct
lock may not be given to you. This is because the chip in your key is 1 of 15 different values
that match the passkey 2 computer behind the radio (to the right a bit) otherwise you will need to bypass the passkey system by putting the proper resistor inline so the unit thinks it is reading the key, but this also bypasses a portion of your anti-theft system.
spray keyhole with wd40. in the lock position turn steering wheel right and left simultaneously pushing key in and out. if it is on accessory position, you can not remove the key.
Insert key grab screwdriver tap the end of the key a few times with the blunt end of the screwdriver. Don't crush it just tap it. There are spring tumblers that are not going back to there home. I had the same problem and this worked for me. Also check the key against any other keys you might have it's possible the key is worn.
