I have a 2003 E320 MB and today the ABS, ESP and BAS malfuction code appeared. After running some errands I got home turned off the car and turned it back on and the malfuction codes were gone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated? Thanks

If your cruise control also will not engage Check if your brake lights are on all the time. If so the brake switch under the brake pedal is stuck down. Clean the plunger or replace the switch. Rotate 90 degrees to remove.

Hi there, Sounds like you have a common problem - Its BAS
Bas is controlled by a switch located under the flap that is directly under the steering wheel.
To Check.
Get in car, close doors and start engine, now press the brake pedal, the instrument panel will now cycle through the various warnings, abs esp and then stop at bas.
If this is the case the solution is easy go to MB dealer and ask to buy a new braking switch, costs around £10-15. and is a ten minute fit.
In the meantime be carefull as all systems like abs, esp, asr, bas will not work at all!
the system is designed to measure the time taken to depress the brake pedal and hence accertain whether or not to deploy emergency braking, it is also designed to make the first switch fail first hence generating an eronious input when you press the brake pedal (no input on first circut whilst there is on the second) this generates a fault code and causes the computer to have a small fit, and turn off all other saftey systems

I have the same problem exactly. Switched the brake switch, problem still exists. In addition to srs, abs and bas I get an "overvoltage" error. Happens only sporadically. But when it happens stereo shuts off, windows don't work and transmission doesnt shift.

Why are my 2006 liberty abs, traction control and ESP BAS lights on?

Read your owners manual

Don't have one,can't find it,never read it, or anyone's

Why,why I ask-- after 34 years of having computers on all

Same process every time

Check the battery
Check for OBD Codes
Diagnose those codes

Do not install any parts based on codes

Find a problem,then the solution

Need a repair shop

No one without decades of experience, can work

You do not even need to pull codes to use Google,

ASB,ESP INOPRATIVE

All you have to do after replacing the battery and the bas/esp light comes on is drive the vehicle. While your driving around is will allow the steering angle sensor to relearn. That's only if it says "bas/esp see owners manual" displayed on the cluster.

ABS MULFUNCTION

ABS--BAS--ESP

Most likely cause is the 'stop lamp switch'
It is a electric switch located on the brake pedal inside the car, about half way up on the brake pedal.
Pretty cheap too, I think the switch is only like $25 bucks.
2 connectors on the switch and then it turns out.
hope that helps
