Possible that it has sucked water and sediment off bottom of tank causing a lean backfire no start. Have you tried spraying carb cleaner into the throttle body to see if it tries to run on that ? As Ray said it is possible timing jumped.
backfireing in the coolant system is a sign your head gasket is blown or cracked block or head. Do a compression test ot confirm the integrity of the engine
did you check the spark plugs? try that maybe you are not getting proper spark and thats why you are back firing and it is turning off.... i would recomend changing plugs and wires.
