Driver side power window switch

2002 Navigator. Yesterday it worked fine. Today the drivers side window switch only clicks behind the side wall next to the parking brake when you push the button. Never a problem never any strange noises. Changed relay #4 and breaker #14. Nothing!. What next? Oh, the window auto lock also stopped working. All other windows are fine. HELP.

SOURCE: Power window problems on driver side

It sounds like there may be a short in the wires. Check the wiring inside the door jam. the wires should be within a rubberised sleeve, possibly a blue and tan coloured wire.

SOURCE: 2002 F-150 Power window problem

I have a 2001 Saturn L200 and just had the same problem. Just finished smoking a cig before driving into work and my passenger side window would not go up and it was snowing!!!

After checking this website I quickly found out that this a fairly common defect with the Saturn brand! Since the window switches are located in the middle counsel, they tend to dirty very easy, especially if you smoke, eat, or spill a drink in your car.

Before you go too crazy and pull anything apart...the switch may just need a good cleaning!

You will need a(n).....

  1. large flat head screw driver (3/4" width)
  2. very small flat head screw driver (1/8-1/4" width)
  3. duct tape
  4. Q-tips and toothpicks
  5. cup of HOT soapy water
  6. blow drier or compressor air blaster
Use some small strips of duct tape and cover both screw drivers with tape to protect against scratching the counsel and switch. There are two metal clips under the north and south positions of the perimeter of the switch. Take the small screwdriver and start at the top using small prying movements until you see some give. Take the large screwdriver and use it as a wedge. Continue carefully with the small prying movements and then follow up with the large screw driver all the way around the perimeter until the switch pops out.

Now use the large screwdriver to disconnect the switch from the electrical plug....while in there....check for dust, dirt, and sticky residue from drinks.....clean as needed! Next, examine the switch to see that it is operating correctly. **My car had pop spilled on the switch and was causing it to remain stuck in the down operation of the window!**

Disassemble the switch completely and you will see three pieces. Use the hot soapy water and q-tips and toothpicks to clean every piece good. Be careful to not use too much water on the circuit board you could cause permanent damage! Finally, use an air compressor to air blast each piece good until dry! At this point I was able to get the switch function properly again.

All you should have to do now is work backwards and reassemble the switch into the counsel. Test the operation of your passenger window. If this does not work then you will need a new or replacement switch.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

I have an 02 Focus Zetec and yesterday the drivers side electric window decided not to work, but the rest are fine. Any Ideas on how to find out what the issue is cheaply {:@}

if neither the driver or passenger switch work to roll down the window then your motor is bad, you will need to buy a motor and window regulator from a junkyard it will cost around 100.

Same exact thing happened to me today with my 06 Odyssey !!!!!!!

the main switch that controls all the windows is on the drivers side it will allows the drivers window to work then allow your brain into thinking that its fine no its not always fine change it your problems will go away. its the master/main switch that is why the two back windows does not work, they does not always go bad at the same time.

2002 Honda Passport, drivers side window goes down but not up??

It would be a switch. Try pushing the switch down hard and wiggling it. It may work which would indicat a switch. Since one direction works It has to be the switch ,

2002 drand am power windows only work from drivers switches. is this a relay problem and how do i check. thanks

Check the drivers side switch for the feed wire to the other windows. Is it getting power. If it isn't you need a new driver side switch, if it is check the passenger switchs to find out if power is getting to any of them. If power is getting to one of them but not passing threw the switch replace the switch, this is the one that would be next in line after the drivers side. Also did you check the drivers side window lock?

2000 GMC Jimmy SLE driver's power window

The same thing happened to my 1999 JMC Jimmy recently. I believe the problem is that your power window motor has most likely gone out or is starting to go out. The motor will need replaced. They are pretty expensive new. I went to a junkyard and got one for around 15 dollars. When mine went bad, I had rolled my window down about three or four inches and it stuck there. I took my door panel off and tapped on the motor while holding up on the window switch and got it to go up after a few minutes. I am replacing my motor today, I'll leave an update here about the outcome when I finish the job. I hope this information helps you.
