When I turn the key nothing happens. No clicks, no crank. All of the lights work properly. No dimming or turning off when I try to start. This has happened a few times before. The first time I put the car in gear then put it back in park and it started. The second time that didn't work; I disconnected the battery (I don't really know why), stared at my engine blankly for a few minutes and then put it back together. It worked after that. Now it is happening again. Shifting to neutral/park isn't working neither is disconnecting the battery. No codes, unable to start to take to mechanic.

Ignition switch....the electrical ignition switch. To verify, find the thick white wire in the harness coming from the switch and do two things; first, check for power at this wire, when you switch the key position to start. If nothing, power the wire momentarily with the key in the run position, and your car should start.

92 Cavalier Z24 wont start, or crank. BRAND new starter and solenoid, yet my problem persists, no cranking, no sounds of the solenoid.

If there's no 'click' when you turn the key there's a good chance that the starter relay isn't firing. Cheap part and easy to replace.

1996 Buick Regal turned off put gas in would not start makes no sound when you turn the key no click nothing tried all the tricks any idea whats wrong

make sure car is in park or neutral, if still nothing, make sure battery terminals are clean, just because the dash lights work does not mean there is good enough connection at the battery to start the car. Make sure battery is fully charged. If still nothing, sometimes giving the starter a tap with a hammer will get it going again. Good luck.

Engine will not turnover

If you are hearing clicks when you turn the key and if you know where the starter is, get under there and tap it with a hammer. Sounds archaic but when they start to go bad they stick. When you turn the key, the starter acts like the old hand crank you see in movies to spin the engine. When you release the key the starter believes it did its job and goes dormant. Anyway, if you hear clicks when you turn the key and if it starts after hitting it that is likely your problem.

My 1989 jeep pioneer just clicks when I try to start it,new starter, battery why wont it crank over?

check for starter relay problem as there is no power getting to the starter. because of the immense drain on a battery during starting the lights will dim slightly and if that is not happening then the circuit to the starter is not complete.. Check the start wire on the starter solenoid is on the right pin.

2003 Hyundai Accent won't start

You are losing power in ignition circuits. Get out your voltmeter and start tracing the circuits till you find the offender.

I have (1994 ACCORD LX) full power to everything. But it will not turn over. Is this a no brainer. Starter bad. And all fuses are good.

If it was a no brainer, why are you asking?First is the battery ok? headlights work bright? horn? if they do, then what happens when you turn the key? lights dim? go out?nothing? click? if no click, check the connections at the battery, then check the little wire at the starter, it shoul dhave power in the crank mode, if it does, the starter is bad, if no power, then check if the car is fully in park, or try to start in neutral. If someone can hold the key in the crank mode while you whack the starter with a wrench or hammer (lightly) and it starts, the starter is bad.

My 2004 pontiac grand prix gt wont start when i went to turn it on this morning to go to work nothing happened it just made a clicking noice. The guy at pep boys said that the battery was good. when i try...

if you turn headlights on and turn key to start do you hear clicking? if so starter is possibly bad, lets trouble shoot your problem.suggest you check the fuses under hood in black box, make sure those are good. when you turn the key, you should hear at least a click or else the starter is not drawing current.try turning the headlights on and at same time turn the key and try to start, if lights go dim the starter is drawing current, does it click? if so then bad starter. if no noise at all,,still could be a bad starter.suggest that you remove the starter and have it checked out.also make sure the car is in park for sure before you do any of this. hope this helps!!
