My 2001 Monte Carlo SS has a tendency to shake while idling, and also has a pretty noticeable bad smelling exhaust, almost like rotten eggs. The exhaust seems a little brown, but the warmer the day, the less noticeable the color is. It has about 115,000 miles on it, and sometimes while shaking the check engine light comes on, maybe about 20% of the time. Any ideas?

It well may be that the brake disk (I believe you call them brake rotors in America?) is either cracked or warped.

It seems you may have a catalytic converter problem. Either the converter itself or one or more sensors. Take the car for a trouble code at an AutoZone or similar store for a free scan.

There could be a few possibilities:
1. Air Mass Sensor
2. Ignition Circuit Units
3. Dirty Idle Valve
4. Dirty Throttle Body
4. Voltage Regulator
Check the above one after another.
