Smoke coming steering column

I have small puffs of electrical smoke coming from the steering column when I drive with the AC on, took it to the garage and they said it was the ignition motor so I changed it. Puffs of smoke still happening and only when A/C is on - they say that's not the cause and are at a loss?

Hi Ricardo, thanks for taking the time to reply. Puffs of smoke with an electrical burning smell, each time 3 or 4 puffs after I turn the blowers off. I then pull over and stop for 5 minutes, and set-off again with no A/C and it's fine. I had the garage check for the signal light switch etc and they said there is no evidence of burning/melting in any of the obvious places they would look?

Smoke is rising from my steering column

You have a Shorting wire, you will have to dismantle the steering column to trace it. Disconnect your battery and do not drive it until you get it fixed.

Steering wheel smoke?

They will find the problem if they take it apart. Could be the airbag, horn, any controls on the steering column. It sounds like it may have some burnt wiring.

1990 Dodge Spirit a couple of things not working

I think its only by happenstance that the smoke came out of the column at the moment you tried to start the car while it was running.
If you took apart the steering column I am sure you already have noticed that there are a billion wires, and doodads in there. Any one of those could have burnt and you wouldn't be able to tel right away by looking at them. The smoke is usually an indicator that your ignition has burnt up, but it could also have been a fused link, a wire you happen to miss during inspection, or any number of control switches inside the column. I would recommend taking it to a shop and putting it on a computer.

Steering wheel smoke?

If it has rancid acidic smell, it is wires burning. Please stop driving before the air bag blows up in your face. Bring to a shop to find it.
