2005 Impala sedan, with 65000 miles on it.. Transmission occasionaly hesitates when car is starting from a stop. It will also shift kind of hard, once in a while, when accelerating. Thanks, Ken
There are diagnostic tools that could help detect what your problem is. The Snap-On Modis, or preferably a "Tech-2" GM scanner. Any reputable transmission shop, or GM dealer should have at least one of the two. It sounds to me like it could be the transmissions "EPC" (Electronic Pressure Control solenoid) The EPC controls main line pressure, in an effort to keep shift firmness, and shift duration at one specific level. This is to compinsate for the natural wear a transmission encounters, and to keep emissions as low as possable, by keeping shift duration low. When the EPC malfunctions (and thats somthing that they like to do in the 4t65E), it typically starts to shift harder than normal. They typically throw a P1811 code. (P1811 is a "max adapt-long shift" code) And the malfunction can be intermittent. Hope this helps, and good luck.

I did not change the transmission fluid since i bought the car in 2007!
Could be this the problem of the code " max adapt-long shift"?
If i flash the transmission fluid and i replace it with a new one at the right level, could i hope that the internal pressure stabilizes so the problem goes away? Is this EPC located inside the transmission? Just to tell you i went to scan it by computer and came out the code of "....-long shift" but the problem is that they asked me for 2500$ to take the transmission down because once it is down it should be rebuild with all the other parts which makes sense !
There is any other solution to fix this EPC?
My car is a Chevy Uplander 2005!

Rhere is a switch located on transmission like a shift selinoid it could possibly be problem have you checkedto see if the fluid level was correct in trans?
Mine is a Chevy uplander 2005 with code "max adapt- long shift" , after they checked it the operator explained to me something about the difference of pressure, now could your suggestion to check the solenoid or the fluid level be helpful? I did not change the transmission fluids since 2007! May it be the cause? What you suggest to do knowing that there is this code .....adapt- long shift? Thanks

Thanks for the replv. The fluid level is good, and does not appear to be "off color" or burnt. The problem is very sporadic,, leading me to believe it could be a solenoid, or computer problem ,as apposed to a gear or other hard part that has been damaged or worn out. Does anyone know if there is a diagnostic instrument that could be used by a mechanic (while he drives the car) to detect a solenoid, or computer problem. If so, does the problem have to occur, or can it be detected by the way the solenoid, or computer performs?
Thanks for the replies from k10aholic, and zacksplayroo. Any others will be appreciated. In the mean time , I will check with local shops to see if they have the diagnostic instruments.
