VOLVO 850 ECC SYSTEM JUST WANT SOME FEEDBACK

I AM A CERTIFIED VOLVO TECH AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW AT WHAT TEMP DOES THE INTERIOR TEMP IS MAINTED AT 50-60 DEGREES I REPLACED ALL I MEAN ALL THE SENSORS IT (THE ECC) HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE I BOUGHT THE 1995 T-5 AND I THINK IT IS A VOLVO NIGHTMARE TO FIND THE PROBLEM I KNOW THAT THE OUTSIDE TEMP SHOULD BE 70 DEGREES OR MORE IT MIGHT BE OK IT IS FULLY CHARGED BUT IT IS HARD TO DIAGNOS THIS SYSTEM

THE FIRST THING TO TRY IS REPLACING THE CABIN FILTHER IF IT IS CLOGGED YOU GET RESTRICTED AIR FLOW AND SECOND IS TO CHECK THE AIR FLOW TO THE CONDENSOR IS UNRESTRICTED IF SYSTEM IS BLOCKED BY AIRFLOW IT WILL OVERHEAT THE RELAY IN THE ECC AND SYSTEM WILL SHUT DOWN

  • Anonymous Apr 28, 2009

ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THAT THE RADIATOR FAN ON A HOT DAY SHOULD AND I MEAN ALWAYS ON OTERWISE THE CONDENSOR (WONT) GET ENOUGH AIR FLOW AND CHECK ALL WIRING EVEN THE FUSE LINK IS IN THIS SYSTEM WITH NO AIR FLOW THE RELAY GETS HOT AND SHUT THE SYSTEM DOWN

these volvo all 850,s and S70,S have a recall that volvo has hundredes of COMPLAINTS the problem and i am a ASE MASTER TECH and Volvo lied about this problem for at least 10 years and have alll kinds of consumer COMPLAINTS about the ECC/CLIMATE CONTROL system and i have done my homework it is a bad EVAPORATOR PERIOD and i am currently workingb on a patent for the system to cycle without instead of running a wire from A/C COMPRESSOR with a 40 amp fuse and a toggle switch

Our 2001 V70 -AC shuts off during driving and wont come back on until car is stopped turned off and restarted, you can hear compressor kick on but wont stay on regardless of temp control setting.

The A/C needs to be serviced by a certified volvo tech or some one who know's a/c very well it can be just low charge or the speed sensor on the compressor.

Fan only works on speed 4. Is the resister the problem? 1-3 do not work and was that way when i bought the used volvo 850 wagon.

If your car has Manual Climate Control (that is without ECC - Electronic Climate Control), then the problem is most likely the resistor. Costs about $85 on line. Models with ECC do not have a blower motor resistor. On those vehicles, this function is handled by the A/C Power Module. There are four different power modules, depending on your build date (chassis number). Any of them will run you about $125 on line.

The REC and AC lights flash for 20 seconds which means a fault is detected in the ECC system.Owners manual says check climate control unit? Whar do you think the cost will be.

It depends on where you take it. A Volvo dealer will be expensive so I'd look for a repair shop that specializes in electrical problems.
A side note, I've seen that happen on Volvo's before and it turned out the a/c system wasnt charged with freon. It might be cheaper to visit an a/c shop first to make sure your system is fully charged.

I blow my ECC Module in my 93 850 GLT. Where do I get used one?

salvage yards, but get them to confirm it works before you leave their place, cause most used parts especially electrical can;t be returned

Cost and how to repair a heater core on a 1994 Volvo 850 Wagon.

The heater core on your Volvo is an easy fix. The dash does not need to come out. You remove 6 screws from the center console, pull that out of the way, pull back the carpet and there she is. A couple more screws, a tug to the back to remove the bad core and you replace in reverse. Put down a plastic bag or catch-can to get whatever coolant comes out when the core is removed. I thought I was in for an expensive repair until I researched and saw how easy the job was.
