Dashboard display LCD screen if not working - can't see the mileage, temp etc. Is it TCM issue or something else?

This is a common issue with this vehicle. The instrument cluster will need to be removed and either repaired or replaced.
If you replace it with a used replacement, you will not have your original mileage. I would send yours in for repair. Here is a link to a repair facility.

The problem is a loose solder point on a transistor on the circuit board. I just recently fixed mine. If you know someone that is electronically inclined, they can fix it in less than an hour...including removal and replacement in the van
One of the little lights needs replacement in your dashboard.You can flip off the dashboard and take off the lights one by one.If you found the broken one replace it with a working one and try.
Ur instrument cluster is most probably the culprit. Smack the dashboard to see if it helps. If it does, bingo, most probably a bad weld on the cluster circuit board. Happens alot on VW's.
