Had a minor front-end collision, the headlights are damaged and I have a short that killed my battery, I hooked up a charger and managed to start the car, but the short killed it again after a couple of weeks of sitting. Now, I've had the charger on for 30+hours, and the car won't even turn over. Also, the first time this happened the inflatable restraint light would come on, but would eventually turn off, now it won't even turn off and same with the battery charge light. What do I do?

The most probable cause for this is a an intermittent problem with the Starter solenoid and/or starter.

When the car does not respond to turning the ignition key on can you hear a click from under the hood?

If you can that is the starter solenoid trying to turn on the starter motor. I would say the starter needs to be replaced.

If you cannot hear anything, then the solenoid ( which is just a relay) is probably bad.

I just replaced my startere on my F150, starter & solenoid come as a unit.... cost about $125.

test the voltage on both the batterys positive and the jumping post positive while cranking, that will tell you how much power is being drawn and where you maybe loosing it, i would replace any battery that drops below 11volts

Could be your alternator. If you can get it started again. Try to have the alternator checked out.

i had a 2003 ctc that did the same thing, it wouldn't start or would make a clicking sound and about 1 mth after the problem started aND mechanics could not find a problem my car caught on fire and burned completely from something under the right side of the hood. i had just parked the car and got out, it happened really fast. the fire chief said the cause was unknown????

now i have a 2004 cts and i'm having the same problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! has anyone else had this happen???? please be cautious if your cts is doing this, during the fire my doors locked and had to be pried into by fire chief.
