Can I put a ford engine in my 1988 mazda b2200 pickup?
Yes, i believe you could put any engine on your pick-up provided it is the rear wheel type set-up and the engine comes with its own tranny. problem is, if changing the engine mounts, tranny mounts, wiring set-up and exhaust system layout would not be of any problem to you. might as well look for the same mazda engine you have as a replacement to ease installation.
hi there again. believe it of not my brother has a 94 mazda pick-up double cab. here in the philippines, diesels are the most rampant engine in use thats why our mazda uses a diesel R2 engine which is a 2.2 liter diesel engine and also interchangeable with a RF turbo engine w/c is a 2.0 liter diesel engine. also, diesel fuel here is much cheaper and provide powerful take-offs during acceleration at low RPMs. I have a engine troubleshooting guide here(usually the basics) and found a few engine for your 88 mazda p-up. for mazda made engine you could look for: B1600/NA w/c is 1.6 liter gasoline engine and FE which is a 2.0 liter engine. the possible equivalent ford engine is LAT which is a 1.6 liter gasoline engine and N6TS and NAT/W/X/V for a 2.0 liter engine. The ford engines are used for ford transits. unfortunately I have no idea if the mounting shall be the same.
if i'm not mistaken, merging of ford and mazda only happened lately, the compatible engines are of the ford ranger and mazda B series p-ups of the 1990 model. this is for diesel engines only. i have no data for the gasoline type. hope this helps you look for an applicable engine.

Well the problem is, I am having trouble finding a good used mazda motor around here but from what I have read some of the ford and mazda motors were interchangeable. I just don't know what years. There are a lot more ford products in the local salvage yards than mazda's thats why I was asking.
