The car is running poorly and missing when hitting the gas pedal

My 1989 Corvette is hard to start - takes alot of pumps of the gas pedal and then is missing and sometimes backfires on hitting the gas pedal. I've already replace the fuel filter, air filter and PCV valve and that seemed to work for a bit but now is probably worse than ever. It seem like if I run the automatic tranny without overdrive it seems to run a bit better but its driving me crazy. Could it be the mass air flow sensor?

No I have not but they appear to be in good shape and like I said, it runs pretty good when you keep it out of overdrive.

It's your fuel sending unit.

check the pulsator located above the fuel pump. when you have the fuel sending unit out, at the top is the electrical plug. If the prongs on the plug are burnt looking, replace wireing harness on fsu. A bad fsu will short out the fuel pump.

Give it a good tune up. Change the cap and rotor, plugs. Make sure that the plug wires are in good shape and not broken from heat.

You have to check the timing. Make sure that the timing marks are lined up with the timing. It might have jumped.

My 1989 Camry is running a little rough. Takes some time to start it up and if I mash the gas pedal too hard it will die and shut off. Someone told me it could be a vacuum leak? Any help?!?

It sounds to me not enough fuel getting to engine.could be a fuel pressure problem.Maybe a faulty fuel pump.or could also be a faulty idle sensor.Just a few possibilities
Good Luck :)

Just bought a 1997 corvette been sitting a while charged up battery would not stay running was missing only ran when i kept on fethering pedal the noticed exhaust pipe got cherry red

Check to see if the exhaust is exiting the rear tailpipe. Could be a plugged up catalytic converter. Or some sort of obstruction in the exhaust system....

My engine wont rev on kickdown 1989 corvette

your torque convrtoer is shot. it is the at the front of the tranny to transfer motion from fly wheel ( engine side) to the trans. its a fairly cheap and easy fix.
