Many parts stores have loan-a-tool pressure gauges. What are you working on? Older cars have two wires to the ignition coil. On is a start only wire which is active only in the start position of ignition switch and bypasses the resistance circiut to supply 12 volts to the coil when starting. This is done to cause a higher voltage, lower amperage spark to assist in starting the engine. When you release the key, juice to the coil goes through a resistance wire (chevy) or ballast resister (mopar) to send about 6 volts to the coil to give a lower voltage, higher amp spark for more efficient fuel burn. That said, more modern cars don't use these 2 circuits.
It should be on as long the key is switched on. if you're ignition is supplied the fuel pump should be supplied if it's hooked to your coil... although, I would reccomend hooking it up to a keyed source other than your coil. it's taking a toll on you coil while it's hooked up there. gonna cause ignition issues down the line due to extra load. your pump is doing what it should though. is the your car engine cranking when you try to start, first check spark plugs ignition coils, remove one ignition coil and spark plug fix the spark plug in to the ignition coil then connect ignition coil to wiring and keep spark plug body touching on ground of engine head mettle parts, ask some one to crank engine then you can see is the plug sparking or not, do the same way to all the coils and plug otherwise you have to buy a ignition spark tester, is the all the coils and spark plugs are OK then check the fuel pump, it's sitting in under rear seat, before that do one thing disconnect oxygen (O2) sensor wiring and crank engine, the thing is if your oxygen sensor completely dead fuel pump will stop working, if engine start after disconnect O2 sensor, replace new O2 sensor, otherwise need to check fuel pump relay fuse and fuel pump. is this information helped you? please vote me and give a comment.
So you have no crank no start correct?
Battery must be fully charged ( three day charge) or new.Make sure battery cables are clean and tight.
Use meter and make sure B+ making it to starter .
If B+ not at starter then check cable to starter and neutral safety switch and ignition switch.
This is for crank no start
B+ goes from battery to Ignition switch to coil to switching device( ignition module) to plug.
use a volt meter and find out where B+ stops.
When I hear no fuel or fire I always think of ignition module first. The moudule tells the coil when to fire, and if you don't have fire at the plugs then the fuel pump won't run due to saftey issue. Take your module in to parts store and they will test for free.
