I have a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo LSE. The transmission was serviced at 101,000. Currently it has 122,000 miles. The truck is have an intermitten problem where there is a delay shifting from 1st to 2nd. It shifts hard, but does move into 3rd. This only happens when you first begin to drive the truck. I took it to a transmission repair shop and they told me that there were no error codes on the computer, the fluid was full, no leaks, however, the fluid was tarnished. They figured the transmission is going out, but they would have to "get in there" to know for sure and it would cost around $1,000 to $2,000 to look and then replace the seals and gaskets and that was only if the transmission didn't need to be replaced. Are there other things I should be checking that may be the cause of this problem other than the transmission is going out?

The problem is the seals and gaskets. The fluid leaking through the seals not allow the gears to shift. Check your fluid for metal shavings by wiping the dipstick on a white paper towel and look for gray if you see gray the gears r stripping and transmission needs to be replaced.

Well scanning it when it fails will help most times
you didnt so .....
nor if the TV cable is sticking, is it?
the TV is the passing gear cable.
and if stuck out, will delay all shifts
find another shop.
win.
if you send all that cash and it still fails what then.
is the car worth $1500?
if not, park it and get another, and avoid Isuzu, they dont sell them here, now, no cars. why by a dead car company car.
buy a JEEP, win.
if the trans is bad, the car is worth, only its value as a dead car
what is that, $500 , if you can find a buyer,
so find a good car, before spindling 2k on this car.
econ 101 here, its only a car. not a pet.

SOURCE: 104,000 miles transmission issue

The trans in your vehicle is a 4L30E.The check, and fill plugs are in the pan.The fluid has to be checked after the vehicle is fully warmed up,engine running,in Park. The hard to shift into 2nd gear is kind of difficult to say, check the level, maybe have it scanned for trouble codes esp. if check engine is lit. Those particular transmissions have one weak area, and thats the Low gear,or first gear band and drum. That causes a symptom of slip and chatter on takeoff from a complete stop.

SOURCE: Poor Shifting

Well, if it was low on fluid, and it was driven for a distance, you could of wrecked the interior gears of the tranni or other parts. I'm not a tranni guy but I know if you run a vechile with low tranni fluid you're asking for a new tranni or to have that one rebuilt.

It is called a rear end. Your best bet is to find a good used one at a salvage lot. You should have good luck as all of the isuzu's were clunkers. Aamco will rape you!

SOURCE: I have an Isuzu Rodeo 1998 2.2L manual

This sounds like the syncros are going out but you may have a clutch on it's way out as well. This might also have a clutch resivoir under the hood like and near the brake fluid resivoir. Check the fluid level. If it was low you may need to bleed the clutch like brakes. That is hard for me to tell you how unless I am there. It is not at all difficult but ask around on here if it comes to that. I hope this helps, The Raz

Have 2002 rodeo lse...what is brand of stereo? Want to purchase new factory stereo...bought one previously, that looked like installed one, but did not work because of tuner or amp issue.

There were probably different stereo unit options available but the particular stock stereo in my 2002 Rodeo was a "Clarion" Model No. P1-9993M (cassette player). I've since upgraded to a better aftermarket head unit so you are welcome to my old one if willing to pay shipping (ha,ha).

Location of transmission dipstick on 2002 isuzu rodeo

Hello, Unfortuanetly the Rodeo does not have a dipstick and you must have a service technician check your transmission fluid by removing bolts on the tranny as if your were going to drain the transmission. I hope this helps you with your problem. A technician should not charge to much to do this for you either.

My 2002 isuzu rodeo transmission is slipping should i first get it flushed before buying a transmission?

We had the same problem with a 2002 Rodeo. The transmission must be replaced. But keep in mind the Powertrain Warranty (yes this does cover the transmission) on 2000-2003 Rodeo's is 10yr/120,000 miles. Call 800-255-6727 with your vin# and they will verify. Good luck!
