Set timing on a 1992 honda prelude, 2.3 engine, I REPLACED THE DISTRIBUTER AND NOW ITS COMPLETELY OUT OF TIME, detailed instructions please

  1. Locate the service check connector and, if applicable, remove the cap. On 1988-91 Preludes, the cap is yellow and the connector is located next to the vacuum control box in the engine compartment. On 1992-95 Preludes, the service connector is located under the middle of the dash. On 1990-93 Accords, the connector is blue and is located behind the right front kick panel, under the dashboard. On 1994-95 Accords, the service connector is located behind the glove box. Use a jumper wire to connect the two terminals of the service connector.
  1. Following the manufacturers instructions, connect a timing light to the engine. The positive and negative leads connect to their corresponding battery terminals and the spark plug lead to No. 1 spark plug wire.
  2. Make sure that all wires are clear of the cooling fan and hot exhaust manifolds.
  3. Set the parking brake and block the front wheels. Start the engine. Check that the idle speed is set to specifications.
  4. Point the timing light at the timing marks. On all models except 1994-95 Accords, the marks are on the flywheel. On the 1994-95 Accords, the timing marks are on the crankshaft pulley. When the engine is idling, the red mark must align with the pointer. Some timing marks are indicated by 3 lines; the center one must be aligned with the pointer.

  1. If necessary to adjust the timing, loosen the distributor hold-down bolt(s) and/or nut and slowly rotate the distributor in the required direction while observing the timing marks.
  2. To complete the adjustment operation, tighten the hold-down bolt, taking care not to disturb the adjustment.
  3. Switch the engine OFF . Reinstall the rubber plug in the timing window and remove the timing light. Remove the jumper wire.

Need a picture or diagram of top dead center/86' honda prelude 2.

From what I see in my manual,

1.There is a Timing Pointer on the back of the engine. There is a White mark on the flywheel. The white mark must line up with the timing pointer, for Number 1 piston to be at Top Dead Center.

2.Facing the engine, looking at the camshaft sprocket. The sprocket has spokes. On one of those spokes is the word, "UP" in raised letters, or there is a small Dot. As you can see here, the spoke with the word UP goes -> Up.
(Same thing of course if it is a Dot, instead of UP)

On the back of the camshaft gear, (Sprocket), are marks. On the edges of the camshaft gear. These line up with the top edge of the cylinder head. The surface of the cylinder head, where the valve cover bolts down to.

I'm sorry, at present I do not have a website, that I could link you to for a diagram, or photo.

How do you set the timing on a 92 honda prelude

Hi there. Firstly you need a strobe light, I hope you have one of these. Firstly when the engine is stopped, you need to locate the timing marks on the crank pulley - they are a series of indentations on the crank pulley and you will see the pointer on the crank pulley cover. The largest indentation on the pulley is TDC (Top Dead Centre) and the three smaller indentations are your timing marks. When the engine is at normal operating temperture and idling, using the strobe light, the centre small timing mark should be aligned with the pointer on the crank pulley cover. If it's not aligned, loosen the distrubutor body and turn in the appropriate direction to either advance or ****** the ignition timing. Hope this helps, Scottech.

1992 Honda Prelude Timing Belt Diagram

There's no such thing as a timing belt diagram.

Do you mean to say the "Procedure" for changing a timing belt in a 92 Prelude?

By asking such a question I can only interpret it as a clear indication that you've never changed a timing belt before.

If this is true, then you don't want to start out or practice on your own car.

Get the car to a pro and have the job done right.

If not true (and you've changed timing belt's in the past)

Then give me the engine size and I'll post the:

"PROCEDURE" for changing the belt in a few hours.
