by check timing do you mean base ignition timing or cam timing ,base ig. timing is handled by pcm not adjustable cam timing can be checked by removing all necessary components to gain access and remove timing belt covers rotate engine till #1 cylinder is @ tdc on compression stroke and check to see if all timing marks line up
check timing it should be 5 b tdc 600 idle speed . this is for manual or automatic . check fuel pressure it should be 38 psi. when check timing idle speed should be at 600-800 rpms.your timing has to be checked using a scanner only. not adjustable with timing light.
