Bmw diesel 320 cd.exhaust emissions deterioted warning light on.no immediate power when accelerating.when car standing put my foot on the accelerator for approx ten seconds and no revolutions at all,then it comes ito force after that period.recently had turbo changed and catylictic convertor.

Way to many things to guess at on these. Best to have the codes read. Most every thing on the engine and transmission will cause it to go to reduced power. Then start turn on other s lights, like stability.

run fault codes and check for problems in the exhaust system

What colour is the exhaust smoke?

When you stand behind the car with the engine running after the engine is fully warned up, do you see smoke coming from the exhaust?

I am presumming this is a diesel? please confirm.

It sounds like an EGR fault, exhaust gas recycler valve, this will make the car lose a lot of power and cause the engine light. Normally will not rev over 3-4k rpm with the light on.

diesel pump might not be working right. Try and check fuel pressure. I dont know if its turbo but if the turbo is failing then you will loose power

The warning light has two states. A blinking light indicates a critical problem with gaseous emissions from the engine that is likely to cause permenant damage to the engine, exhaust sytem or catalytic converter. A blinking light must be remedied immediately, and the car should not be driven in this state, at the risk of causing serious and permenant damage to the engine, exhaust and/or catalytic converter. Repairing or replacing these parts can be extremely expensive. A reputable garage or a Vauxall/Opel garage should be able to diagnose and repair the problem.

A solid (unblinking) light indicates a non-critical fault in the emmisions exhaust system. Many faults are covered by this light including failures in emssions sensors, temperature sensors and a variety of other parts. This usually results in a higher than average amount of environmentally harmful pollutants being expelled from the car, loss of power and/or gradual damage to the engine, exhaust and catalytic converter. While the car can still be driven with a non-critical emmisions problem, it is highly recommended that the fault is diagnosed and repaired at a reputable garage or Vauxhall/Opel garage.

you may have a bad throttle position sensor.

The Exhaust Emission Light can come on if the car is driven slowly over short distances.It will not happen on cars driven at speed. A short trip of ten miles at over 3000 revs should reset the warning light,although it may not go out for a couple of days after you have tried it .
