Sounds like you're losing vacuum, probably at the master cylinder.
Check the hose connection.

There must be a leak or air in the system, try bleeding the system with the car running, have some one pump pedal threee times and hold while you bleed, tell them when to pump and hold. start at right rear wheel then move to left rear then right front and last left front, when done check lines and connections for leaks, make sure to bleed system good, let me know what happens and also does this car have abs system

SOURCE: Brake Pedal goes to the floor in my 1990 Chevy C1500 Scottsdale

do you have a self bleeder kit? first off, you have to bleed the master cyl back into its self and the combination valve before you go to the wheels. when you do that, I think you will find that you have air in the lines. disconnect both brake lines from the master cyl and put the bleeder kit fittings on the master cyl, then put the rubber tubing with the kit on the fittings and submerge it in the brake reservoir. make sure its full. then pump the pedal until you get a hard pedal. if that is the case, reconnect the lines to the master, then have an assistant pump up the brake pedal with the engine off, and bleed the combination valve which should be connected to the master by steel tubing. pump it up, then hold it down, and crack the fittings loose, one at a time until the pedal goes about half way down, but do not release the brake pedal until the line is tight again, otherwise you will **** air in the lines. after you do all that, go to the farthest caliper or wheel cylynder from the master and bleed that with the same technique, and dont release the pedal until you close the bleeder screw. unless you have a major prob, this will work.

Did you bench bleed the MC before installing it? If not, that's the problem. MUST be bench bled or you'll always have air. If brakes lights are on, the brake switch is out of adjustment OR (since you replaced the MC), the push rod is out of adjustment

I have changed the rear rotors and brake pads, bled the brakes after putting itall back together. Seemed to have brakes but then shortly thereafter they are like a sponge. Last time I tried bleeding them...

Hi, bleeding your rear brakes with engine running, you should get enough pressure out of the lines to squirt 3-4 feet. In other words, good pressure. If all you get is a trickle, you probably have a bad master cylinder. Just because its full of fluid, does not mean the seals arent shot. If you have bled them in order, left rear, right rear, left front, right fornt and have bled them enough to get fresh fluid out of each one without achieving good solid pressure at all wheels, replace your master cylinder. There is a proportioning valve, but usually it will affect only one wheel when going out, usually the left rear.
Brake pedal height comes from the rear brakes, so if you have bad pressure there, you will never get a good pedal. Eventually with a bad master, your brakes will go completly out..Mike

Brake problem spongy brake pedal pedal goes down replaced front pads and master cylinder and wheel cylinder and bleed lines

try bleeding them more, start with the right rear, then left rear, then right front ,then left front, always bleed the brake that is furthest from the master cylinder, sometimes you have to bleed them several times until you get a steady stream of brake fluid.

Brake pedal goes to floor

If there is still no pedal, there must be air in the line. Continue to bleed the line until a solid stream comes out, and the pedal pressure becomes firm.

When you bleed the brakes are you starting with brake furthest from the master cylinder? Also was the master cylinder bench bled? If everything there is okay and you are not getting any air in fluid stream, you could try bleeding the brakes by having some one slowly pump the pedal till it is firm. Then have them let off open first bleeder valve and slowly depress to floor and hold there untol the valve is closed. repeat this at all bleeders. You may want to have car running to do this. Try this and let me know.

Brake line leak

start from the farthest, right rear, left rear, right front, then left front, take some time in bleeding your left front since it has more air induced during line replacement. good luck!
