I have a 2001 Pontiac Montana. Problem I am having is that when it sits for awhile, I have to crank (over and over) before the engine finally catches. But after I have driven it for awhile, I can start it right back up with no problem. But if it sits for more than 10-20 minutes, I still have to crank it. I have replaced the spark plugs and wires, the fuel pressure regulator, and the cam sensor (was bad from the codes on the computer). Could it possibly be the fuel filter causing this problem?

Codes are out of range or computer parameters
Codes do not tell you what is wrong or to replace
anything

You have to component test to find a failed part

The fuel filter won't be a problem
Is the fuel pressure at the fuel rail what it
should be?

Sounds like your just changing parts in a wish
& hope strategy & not diagnosing a thing

The cam sensor code should have told you why
is was set.
The code was the reaction of something mechanical
& most likely not a bad sensor

Sound like you failed to check fuel pressure & see if it held
May have a bad check valve in the fuel pump

You have been chasing your tail
Need to develop a diagnostic strategy you can use on
all vehicles & all problems & write it down
You follow your set of rules every time & not jump
directly to the symptoms

As you do your testing you eventually arrive at the problem
Take time

No part Ever get installed until they test bad

Plugs,Wire,Fuel Filters are preventative maintenance
items you do every 3 years so you already know you can
that & work on the problems you have from a road test &
code related issues are resolved first,Always then maintenance

SOURCE: 2000 ford explorer 4.0 x-engine is stalling, missing and lose power while driving

I personally would check the fuel pressure. Then I would go back to the coil. I have seen brand new bad coils out of the box. The symptoms of a loss of power point to this component, especially if the car idles well, but loses power when accelerating. Please do not rate this reply - we all are left to grasp at straws since you have changed pretty much everything. Good Luck. Please post the final fix of the problem.

SOURCE: alero will crank awhile before it finally starts w/ more details

May have small fuel leak or fuel pump sending unit leak down. Or fuel pump psi low.

After 30 minutes try this turn key on. do not try to start wait 10 seconds turn key off then on again 10 seconds then try & start if it starts right away fuel system is losing PSI either back through the fuel pump or a leak in line. If you can find no leaks would suggest replace fuel pump & assembly.
Another possible but rare fuel injectors may be leaking fuel over time & dropping PSI needed for start up.

SOURCE: Vehicle dies while driving down the road.

could it be the A/C pump kicking in. might be boging down the motor or electrical circuit, not letting the injectors get enough power. This could happen if the bearings are going bad in th A/C pump or there is a short in it. Just an idea. sounds like you have done the main components.

Hi! You must be frustrated by now! your code is marking that the O2 sensor is bad in bank 1. Did you replace the O2 sensor that is located  before the catalytic converter?  The S10 has an O2 sensor specially made for that cat. its about 30$ That would explain for your blackened spark plugs; your pc on the car is asking for more fuel. GOOD LUCK!!

Can you put a transmission from a 2002 chevy impala in a 1999 Saturn sw2

about replacing a transmission with one from a Junkyard or cross referencing them. and to show you that not all 4T65E transmissions are interchangeable, although they look alike. Guys with the comp g package or the Impala police option often find this out the hard way.
Your car and the potential donor car will have a tag in the trunk (usually under the spare tire cover) that lists the RPO codes for your car, along with your VIN. RPO=Regular Production Order. Several of these codes relate to the transmission, and you will need them to begin to find a proper match. If you can't find the RPO tags, you can look up the RPOs for a nominal fee ($5) according to the VIN number at the following website: www . compnine . com .
I know these transmissions are different in at least 5 areas, and you have to match each area for a proper swap.
FIRST is the transmission type, which relates to torque converter size, the strength of the internal gears, and the strength of the differential. Here are the basic types along with their RPO codes:
M15 - 245 mm (9.6 in) torque converter
MN3 - 258 mm (10.2 in) torque converter
MN7 - 258 mm (10.2 in) torque converter and heavy-duty gearbox and differential (see 4T65E-HD)
MD7 - 245 mm (9.6 in) torque converter (Chinese version)
M76 - 245 mm (9.6 in) torque converter (with all-wheel drive capability)
You will want a match these RPO codes.
SECOND is the final drive ratio. The PCM can detect the difference, and in some cars may not engage if the correct final drive is not present. Here are the RPO codes for the four different final drives used in the transmission.
FQ3 - RATIO TRANSAXLE FINAL DRIVE 2.86;
FR2 - RATIO TRANSAXLE FINAL DRIVE 2.93;
F83 - RATIO TRANSAXLE FINAL DRIVE 3.05;
FR9 - RATIO TRANSAXLE FINAL DRIVE 3.29;
To narrow year search for potential cars, the following site have pretty good info on the final drives used on various cars. Click on the years of the cars in question.http://www.gmtuners.com/transmission/index.htm
THIRD is the converter stall speed. There will be small differences for most cars as it is based on car weight as well as final drive value and engine ratings. Reusing the cars original torque converter will address that area. Some indication of stall speed value is given in the K-factor information in the above gmtuners page. This bottom of this page from the gmtuners website will show you how to decipher the four digit code on the torque converter. http://www.gmtuners.com/gmtransinfo.htm
FOURTH, the torque converter needs to have the correct lockup clutch friction material for the PCM that controls it (regardless of HD nor not). This changed over the years. The newer ones can be used on older transmissions with calibration changes, but older type in newer transmissions will fail. Reusing the cars original torque converter will address that area.
FIFTH is area is electrical compatibility, and this is what trips up a lot of guys. 3 different electrical interfaces to the transmissions were used from 97-08. Some of these differences had to do with how the PCM determined what gear the transmission was in, or was commanded to be in. If you look on a GM parts web site, you will see that three different internal harnesses are available for the 4T65E. Each of the three harnesses is listed below along with the cars that use the harness. Your car and the donor car will have to match. If you have any additional insight, please leave me a comment and I can correct this post.

Where is the crank position sensor and the ignition module ,coil pack at on a 1998 Pontiac Montana transport

Your spark plug wires go to coils, coils sit on top of ignition module.You have two crank sensors, if crank sensor issue, check the 7x crank sensor, on back side of engine block, down low, two wire connector, wire colors, yellow and purple.

How do I adjust valve lash on a 2001 pontiac montana 3400 enging

The lifters are hydraulic, so adjusting them is not possible. The lifters can take up very little play, so valve ticking when cold is normal. I have had two of these engines. Be sure to have the heads torqued properly, to keep play at a minimum.
