Just went to autozone to see what could be wrong with my car. So far, I see the gas cap was not placed on properly after pumping and the gas was probably topped off. Got these codes. p0420, p0441, p0446

PO420- Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) More than likely a plugged converter or exhaust.Remove the upstream O2 (it'll set a code and be real loud) and then take it for a spin and see if power is restored.
vacuum switching valve may fix the PO441 code. Replacing the charcoal canister could be another thing also. Then your PO446 is EVAP emission control system incorrect purge flow. which could a gas cap, could be a fuel pump seal or pressure sensor, filler neck.

SOURCE: Code P0441 and P0446. What does it mean?

Both codes are with the EVAP SYSTEM, there are numerous items it could be. A repair shop that does Toyotas or the delaler would be the best to check it out for you. Its not anything that will leave you walking or disable the car.

P0420 indicates you have a catalyst efficiency issue; replacement of the Air-Fuel Sensor should take care of that;
The P0441, P0446 and (I assume P0440); you said 446 twice, indicates a faulty or loose fuel cap; it is not sealing properly.
Please feel free to respond to me if you have any further questions.
A FixYa rating from you regarding my assistance would be greatly appreciated.

These codes are all for the Evaporative Emissions System.

P0440- Evaporative emissions system fault- just saying there's something wrong with the system.

P0441- Evaporative emissions system- Incorrect purge flow- saying that the system isn't purging the raw fuel vapors (hydrocarbons- HC) as well as it should.

P0446- Evaporative emissions system- Control valve circuit low- there is a valve, usually located on the charcoal canister at the rear of the vehicle, that opens to allow fresh air to enter the evaporative emissions system as the engine vacuum purges the fuel vapors from the charcoal canister and closes when purge is not needed to prevent leakage of those fuel vapors to the atmosphere (HC is a greenhouse gas and is regulated as such by the fed gov't).

Given that you have the incorrect purge flow code and the control valve code together, my bet is that the vent control valve has failed (causing the P0446) and is not opening to allow fresh air into the system to displace the air from within the system that is being pulled to the engine. Since you have no fresh air entering the system, the engine will pull a vacuum on the system instead of the vapors "flowing" into the engine (causing the P0441).

I hope that this is helpful to you!!!

Car not taking fuel; check engine light on

take it to any ASE mechanic?
the actual scan code was not stated, there are many.
the 2007 has complex level 3 , eVAP.
you did not state your location, ?
if in calif or like states that use the gas nozzles that have that silly
rubber boot?
this boot sucks the fumes as you pump, if not it will NOT pump.
did you pull back on the boot to see if it will resume pumping.?

The EVAP, 101
first off, it's a sealed system until the cap is removed.
BY DESIGN !
all fumes go to the EVAP carbon canister. while parked. cap on.
in fact it even builds pressure in the tank, fumes and air pressure.

the EVAP system has monitors. (ECU) that check many things.
Tests !
If the EVAP system is failing these monitors find that , problem.
Some monitors for this take 30 minutes to finish
SOme fail to run at all until the tank is less than FULL !
RTM.
and yours, does, fail, so why not have that fixed first.?
it told you I'M broken. right ? it dont lie, for sure. believe it.

and yes driving with the cap off or lose does trip a DTC .
after all the cap loose is a breach!

Some state the gas pumps (newer) can fail to pump if
your car will not hold a seal, at the cap."calif fun?"
so, now i bet you have 2x proof of a breach in the system.

i'd bet you didnt try to fill up far out of the town, where such
rubber hose seals are not used, (it may be too far...???)
"rubber bellows seals" at the pump nozzle.

The only part that can actually fail, for the fuel filling..
is the large filler neck pipe, in the car, has a side vent hose.
if this hose got bent or is clogged, some gas station nozzles
will in fact, trip off too soon, due to the filler not having a proper internal vent. ( oops)
try reading the FSM, that section in the book is huge.
EVAP is , in its own way, is complex.
Go to alldata dot com, if not clear this complexity ,then find
an ASE mechanic, he sure can do this.

DIY, read this ,if not clear, then.... bingo

Here is a good one. I have a 2005 Equinox that we just bought. Went to put gas in the tank and after I was finished I tried to put the gas cap back on and it wouldn't lock down. I figured that the...

I learned the hard way that you cannot buy a replacement gas cap from Auto Zone and have it fit on a Chevy Equinox. I tried for over two months thinking there had to be some other issue (there was), but soon as I gave in and bought a cap from dealer, one of the codes cleared. Don't try to save money. For a few dollars more, it is worth it. I still have other code problems due to battery replacement, but learned my lesson on the gas cap.

Check engine light has to be scanned to see what is causing it. The problem causing it is probably stored in the car's computer. Get it scanned at autozone or a similar place, they usually do this for free. Not likely a CEL would be thrown for fluids being low.

if the gas cap is installed properly(tightened),then you could have a code in the computer for the evap system that should be checked into.you will have to know what the code is to find what area of the system that needs to be checked out.

ODB II connection not working Why

take it to another place,,, I went to autozone and they told me mine was'nt working then i went to advanced auto parts and it worked there,,, I need an o2 sensor and a new gas cap.... the man @ autozone didn't know how to use the sccanner.... If you take it to another place and they say it's not working, the dealer might have to do it.... and if that doesn't work then you have a electric problem somewhere...

Engine light has come

Remove the gas cap, clean the surfaces and then replace the gas cap again, firmly twisting it in place. The gas cap either isn't sealing completely or the gas cap needs to be replced.

As an alternative, take your car to Autozone and have them hook up the diagnostic mether to read the problem codes. it' free, and should confirm that the gas cap isn't properly seated, or give you the code for whatever the problem might be. 9 times out of 10 it's the gas cap not being fully seated.
