I recently tried the DIY service and repair manuals from a website and it actually helped me repair transmission problem in my jcb 3cx site-master. It would'nt move forward or reverse, engine was good both solenoids for forward
and reverse worked, but still couldn't diagnose the problem.
I don't have much technical knowledge but I just followed it step-wise, and now it works perfect! covers wiring, diagrams, torque specs, PCV, everything
got it from www.reliable-store.com

SOURCE: 1996 audi a4 transmission hard shift problems

I would first check the level. If it is good then do a regular fluid/filter change. Do NOT do a flush. Just a regular change.

If it works well in all other gears and the car runs well and there is not check wngine light. Then it is probable a early sign of Tran issues. So the fluid change is about all you can do without major work needed.

change out your distributor cap sometimes if its not pushing the right amount of current to your spark plugs it will cause a misfire it wont throw a code but will make your car vibrate violently. also check your compression and timing

4L60E Transmission wont shift into 2nd or Overdrive

Check the fluid level. You may want to consider having the transmission flushed. (I recommend BG Products flush system.) Properly flushing the trans removes any varnish the may have built up causing erratic behavior.

Transmission

Sounds like this car was submerged in water sometime in its life.

What is your specific question ?

Seems like it takes too long to shift into 2nd and when it does it slams into gear and third gear also

1.Check your transmission fluid to ensure its got enough in it,remember if the transmission fluid is low it will cause the transmission to shift hard.
2.Check how dark the transmission fluid is, if its black then you need to have your transmission flushed,if that is the case you will want to go to a garage to have it done.
3.When driving, and it feels like it needs to shift release your foot off the gas for a moment to allow shifting.
4.If your still having the issue with the transmission you will need to get a new one. Good Luck

My 1990 automatic GMC Sierra wont shift out of 2nd, it just revs higher and higher. Any advice? (It will shift from 1st to 2nd when I take my foot off the gas)

Check your transmission fluid, if it is low, the transmission cannot shift into the correct gear from lack of hydraulic pressure. Be sure to check it while the truck is running.

If it is full, you may need to change the fluid and filter; over time the fluid will break down and trash the filter leading to low pressure problems which is why your truck fails to shift any more than 2nd.

Another problem may be that the torque converter is failing to lock yet again from lack of hydraulic pressure or its just worn out.

Put a line pressure gauge (or visit a local trans shop) on the pressure test port and go for a drive to verify proper line pressure. Base pressure at idle in P,N,OD should be around 70psi and around 140psi in R. Max line pressure should be at least 190psi at WOT in 1st or 2nd, 225psi is optimum. If base pressure is low, trans or pump is worn out. If max pressure is low, check EPC solenoid. If reverse is slow to engage, and line pressure does not come up to at least 130psi in reverse, replace the boost valve with a Transgo 0.500" boost valve (easy fix in pan)
1-2 shift does not happen at WOT until you let off the gas: Best case: try replacing the TPS. Middle case: leak in the 2nd gear apply circuit (servo assembly or 1-2 accumulator). Doublecheck by using the pressure gauge and watch for a big drop when the PCM commands 2nd gear. Worst case: poor line pressure rise
1-2 Shift shudder at WOT; delayed or abnormal 1-2 shift; There's a problem ONLY on the 1-2 shift: 1-2 accumulator piston cracked or stuck cocked in the bore. Check the yellow spring inside the accum housing for breakage. Also, if the accumulator housing walls are scored, the housing must be replaced. Easy fix in the pan.
1-2 shift is delayed and harsh, may not shift into OD: Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace.
Good luck and suspect the first two problems mentioned above. Thank you for suing fixya

My transmission is slipping oil when you floor it

Before guessing at transmission problems, check the fluid level (carwarmed up, engine running in Park on level ground) and have the PCMscanned for trouble codes FIRST.

Secondly, put a line pressure gauge,(or visit alocal trans shop) on the pressure test port and go for a drive toverify proper line pressure. Base pressure at idle in P,N,OD should bearound 70psi and around 140psi in R. Max line pressure should be atleast 190psi at WOT in 1st or 2nd, 225psi is optimum. If base pressureis low, trans or pump is worn out. If max pressure is low, check EPCsolenoid. If reverse is slow to engage, and line pressure does not comeup to at least 130psi in reverse, replace the boost valve with aTransgo 0.490" boost valve (easy fix in pan).

Slow, slipping or no reverse: “lo-reverse” clutches are wornout, fluid leak in the reverse apply circuit, or broken sunshell. It ispossible to remedy a fluid problem by removing the checkball from itscage in the case in the rear of the trans may help (must removevalvebody), or adding a high-viscosity additive such as LucasTransmission additive or other seal restorer product. May also haveworn boost valve (can replace in the pan).

Soft shifting, gradual performance degradation: Poor linepressure rise due to leaking boost valve, clogged EPC filter screen, failing EPC solenoid, or worst case: leaky seals throughout. TransgoHD2-C kit fixes first two without removing trans. Seal restorer may fixlast problem, but probably R&R. Also try a transmission flush withBG brand products (Firestone stocks it).

1-2 or 2-3 shift is slow/soft above part throttle: Trans is on its way out. R&R.

Good luck and hope this helps. keep me posted, be glad to help you get your transmission running 100% again soon and thank you for using Fixya.

The best up grade you can do for your transmission is to replace the servos with a Corvette Servo, there go for around $45.00 and can be replaced without removing the transmission pan and also replacing the Boost Valve with a 0.490 or 0.500 Boost Valve. The other inprovment that will help your transmission would be adding a B&M Shift-plus Electronic Shift Improvement kit, part # 70380 Cost around $45.00 if not less. http://www.bmracing.com/SPECIALS/ShiftPlus-electronic-Shift-Improver-for-GM

The automatic transmission skips the middle gears when shifting from 1st gear does this have a tv cable i can adjust and if so how

There is no TV cable, your transmission is electronic. Before guessing at transmission problems, check the fluid level (car warmed up, engine running in Park on level ground) and have the PCM scanned for trouble codes FIRST.

Secondly, put a line pressure gauge ( visit a local trans shop) on the pressure test port and go for a drive to verify proper line pressure. Base pressure at idle in P,N,OD should be around 70psi and around 140psi in R. Max line pressure should be at least 190psi at WOT in 1st or 2nd, 225psi is optimum. 1-2 shift is delayed and harsh, may not shift into OD: Check TPS for smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If not, replace.

Soft shifting, gradual performance degradation: Poor line pressure rise due to leaking boost valve, clogged EPC filter screen, failing EPC solenoid, or worst case: leaky seals throughout. Transgo HD2-C kit fixes first two without removing trans. Seal restorer may fix last problem, but probably R&R. Also try a transmission flush with BG brand products (Firestone stocks it).

Good luck and hope it's a simple TPS probelm.

2004 silverado tranny acting up starting w/ 2nd gear, revs up at about 1800 rpms like it goes into neutral, reverse and 1st gear work fine, fluid level over full and smells burnt and looks dark, was...

Burned clutches I know you said they just seviced it but i would take it back if its still under warranty. Just by what you said the tranny is slipping and the burnt smell is an indication of burnt clutches. The rev up is a sure sign its slipping.

2005 Mazda6 tranny ****

1. some mazdas had a PCM/TCM update to resolve 1st to 2nd shift shock. the only one who can update the is the dealer. maybe covered under 5 year 100,000kms powertrain warranty.

2, have you ever had the transmission fluid replaced? it could be dirty, burnt, etc.
if it was replaced, maybe it was replace with fluid other than M5 fluid. different fluids have different properties (thickness etc) which could cause serious problems if left.

I would recommend taking it to the dealer for the update and a transmission flush (not a drain and fill) using a flush machine.
