It is actually an exhaust brake on an isuzu npr 300 turbo diesel, but there was no listing on Fixya. It is factory installed and is a vacuum operated butterfly on the exhaust. I have so far checked that the butterfly is not seized and the magnetic switch that operates the vacuum to the butterfly is working. There are a couple of other switches on the clutch and accelerator pedals which I have tested to be ok but I think the problem is before these switches.

Its part of the quick warm up gear worked off a switch on the dash its on all the EU models not a jake brake like a truck. Wont come on once the engine is over 55 c . We dont touch em in the UK as they are prone to stick shut !

1990 Mack dump truck 6 cylinder jake brake works driving but shuts down moter when clutch is pushed in.So l shut switch off till l start going again, turn it on,works fine till l need to stop again?

check for a wiring short circuit or broken from the clutch switch to the brake wires
take it to a service dealer or auto electrician for diagnosis
remember there are slight differences between Jacob brakes and the Mack dyna brakes

2010 subaru forester engine cuts out

consider this
when at the stop lights , you will have your foot on the brake as it will still be in drive or in gear and you don't want the car to move
a simple test is to apply the hand brake to stop the car and don't touch the foot brake
if it idles ok but cuts out when you apply the foot brake , replace the brake booster as it has a vacuum leak that is causing the problem
you can do this test in the garage by starting in neutral and allowing the engine to idle , then apply the foot brake
iof it dies it is the booster

Have a 307 hdi car starts up but then cuts straight out there is a hum for about 10 secounds from engine

Then does it start again and do the same? Is the exhaust blocked? I had this when I blocked my exhaust backing into a grass bank. It fills the exhaust with gas, chokes the engine, hiss or buzz for a few seconds, noise stops! vehicle restarts and does the same again. Worth a look? Good luck.

My car is making an awful groaning grinding noise noise when it starts. The noise stops after it starts. Put my foot on the brake it starts again. put thr car in reverse no problem put it in,drive it...

It's your exhaust mounts or broken exhaust bolts. It does it in drive st idle n under load because the motor is sitting in rubber mounts made to dampen vibration. Therefore the motor tilts to the left in reverse pulling the exhaust away from your under carraige, and to the right in drive causing the loose exhaust to vibrate against something. Check your heat shields also. They fall apart n do the same noise. Piece of cake.

When brakes are depressed for stopping, Steering wheel vibrates violently, what could be causing this?

Front brake rotor, there wrap which happen from one day to the next, if you just had a brake job done need to take it back, rotor's were not cut right. make sure they check for thickness of rotor's before cutting, if to thin will work for a while and then start to do it again, good luck.

1994 Honda Accord shuts off when brakes applied

Isolate the brake booster by pinching the vacuum line connected to the booster and try braking. If this works your brake booster is bad.

Reverse comes on when brake

short in wiring harness OR short in wiring connector OR corrosion in connector OR someone put a trailer light clamshell on wrong (still a short).  This covers this 98% of the time.   The other 2% is frequently a short;~)
Do the brake lights always work? are they bright?
