1999 Dodge Durango idleing problems

I have an 1999 Dodge Durango, 5.9liter. It it runs good but when you accelerate it acts like its not get enough fuel. It struggles. Also once in awhile it will idle rapidly, then the next time it won't stay running at all. I've changed the idle control valve twice

Dodge durango stalls after starting

There may be a fault code or codes stored, though. Have an engine scan done for trouble codes as a first step in diagnosis. If no codes are present, I would start by investigating the idle circuit-clean the throttle body and have the IAC (idle air control) tested for proper operation. Good luck.

My dodge durango is 06 it accelerates by itself when i do a stop or in parking can it be the? Air control valve or the throttle position sensor

You may want to clean or replace your idle control module called the IAC which is mounted to your throttle body. This is a stepper motor which controls air threw a passage in the intake. This can cause the engine to rev and allow more air to pass threw the intake. Acting like mashing the gas pedal down no difference.
Your PCM or Power Control Module controls this stepper motor by controlling voltage threw windings which open and close. If this motion is hindered by the IAC this motion can not happen fast enough and Bam you have the problem you have described. Both get out of sink and can not keep up with one another. If you need any further assistance just ask

My 99 durango has a rough idle and dies unless its given gas. the engine accelerates fine but will die if braking or slowing. I have already replaced the fuel pump and filter. if idled long enough the...

Check for a vacuum leak or torn air intake duct that's letting in unmetered air. Also check the accuracy of the engine coolant temp sensor. Finally, find out why it's overheating at idle--that's really serious. Most common cause is a failed radiator fan relay.

I have a 1999 dodge 2500 cummings diesel truck that will idle but when I accelerate it acts like it is not getting enough fuel

  • First check the fuel filter and if the fuel filter is almost 6 months now is the time to replace it.
  • Then drain the fuel tank also.
  • If its still have questions feel free to reply to this solution.

1998 Dodge Durango 318 V8. Engine won't idle. Car has been sitting. Battery was discharged - had to jump start. If you keep your foot on accelerator, engine runs smooth. Once you take it off, it dies....

Probably lost idle memory, all computer controlled keep it running for a period it should regain the idle memory if not make sure no rodent chew damage to wires to the throttle position sensor, if check engine light is on scan for faults.

1999 dodge durango is hard to start. Starts with rough idle with some backfire, then idles smooth. after sitting idle for a minute it will act as if wanting to stall on takeoff! Have changed the fuel pump...

FIrst have you tried giving the engine a tune up (ie replaced the spark plugs)

Also you need to check the condition of all the vacumn lines on the engine loss of vacumn can cause poor idling.

2001 Dodge Durango will start from a jump.

replace the battery, on a dodge when battery is weak the idle air control solenoid tries to search for the right position. and will keep stalling sometimes wont stay running.
